wall-mounting hi-fi speakers

I have an Aiwa hi-fi with speakers that I would guess weigh about 3kg each. There appear to be two ways to wall-mount speakers: one method screws into the back of the speakers, the other has a base for each speaker to sit on with screws that go in the sides of the speaker. I'm more comfortable with the idea of the latter personally unless someone has a really good reason to go for the back ones.

Ideally I'd probably mount the speakers near-ish the ceiling and angle them downwards.

Anyone here with any experience with this kind of thing?

Are the speakers ported in the back? If so, be sure to leave space behind them.

Ported means there is a (typically shaped round but any open area) hole in the back so that air can go in and out with the driver movement to reduce pressure buildup in the cabinet that dampens the driver movement. Typically this hole also has a tube to tune the rate of air exchange.

If you mount this ported type too close to a wall it will dampen the airflow rate, but it would have to be very close to make much difference which I doubt is applicable in your case of wanting to aim them at an angle downward.

It might help if we knew the model of speakers but generally a side-mount frame that allows rotating would be just as good as rear mounting without the hassles of how to aim it with rear mounting, unless the brackets to do that are too flimsy, plastic that has gotten brittle with age. In other words it depends on the quality of the mounting hardware.
