Wally World DVD-RW "Deal" --- NOT DEAD!!!

Apparently this "deal" is for real and not totally dead!

I work for a Tulsa, OK. area company but am based out of NYC, where there are no 'Wally-Worlds'. I recently read the thread about the PHILIPS DVD-RW "deal" for $85-90. Since there was no indication that anyone checked the Tulsa area stores, I had one of my buddies check for me. Initially he came up dry, but last nite he finally had time to get to the 'SuperCenter' in the area, and was able to speak with the store manager.

The manager "confirmed" that Wally World Corporate HAD INDEED negotiated a special purchases deal for these DVD-RW drives, and his store and several others had gottem some in early December. His store had gotten just a few of them, and they blew-out virtually immediately (less than two hours). This was suppossed to be a pre-Christmas in-store promotion for the locations that got them. It was not advertised and not listed in the computer system, so when they arrived at the store, he (the manager) had to call Corporate for instructions on how to handle and price them. Thus, no advertisement - no nothing. If you're in the store shopping and find it --- YOU WIN! Suppossedly these types of special deals occur from time-to-time on different types of items, and Wally World places them in the stores as a kind of "Thank You" to their regular shoppers who are most likely to come across the deal.

Apparently, though, there was a shipping problem with a majority of the purchase from the distributor from whom Wally World got these, and most were NOT delivered prior to the Holidays to be sent out to the stores that were suppossed to get them. And as indicated in the initial thread, this was suppossed to be a special promo just for the SuperCenters.

From what he told my buddy, there is still a quantity (suppossedly two skids) of these that are still in the distribution system to be sent out to the stores. He further said that there is no way any store would know in advance if they would actually get any more of them or if they would be priced same as before --- around $ 85/90 (In the original thread, a few people did find them some in a few stores but priced fairly higher). They would just show up on the truck with regular deliverys, with a note to call Corporate for instructions. This also explains why the SKU and other numbers on the scanned receipts in the original thread are somewhat strange, and requires an over-ride at checkout.

So... if this information is correct, and my buddy is sure the he was getting valid information from the store manager at the Tulsa SuperCenter, then this deal is still a possibility, but will require all of us to keep checking the computer/electronics sections of the Wally Worlds, especially the SuperCenters, in our respective areas to see if they show up in the coming weeks.

Nothing ventured - nothing gained, but for such a deal, it is for sure worth at least checking regularly and keeping our eyes open. And if anyone finally gets a 'hit' on this, it should be posted immediately as that's the indication that the rest of them have finally been sent out to the stores.

Good Luck to all of us!

StealthGlass you are full of $hit. Not to mention its your first post... What the hell are you talking about? Why in the hell would any store slash 400% of its price just to gain appriciation from 1 or 2 customers that are fortunate enuf to get them. If Walmart really wanted to gain attention, they would have probably sold it for $300. $85? why so low... I mean at that rate its more practical to sell it away for 2 dollaz. That deal was bull$hit. Someone had access or information on how their pricing works and scammed walmart. That's it!

Ok its really simple to figure out this is fake...

Look at the reciepts posted the last time this was listed.
There were 2 reciepts for purchases in January, however, the bottom of the reciept has "Buy Princess Diaries December 18th!".

So why would they have an advertisement for December 18 it they were from January?

Somebody did a nice job doctoring those reciepts. Kudo's to them. Maybe you'll catch a dumb store manager who would pricematch this, but otherwise, this joke is no longer funny.

Edit to above:

APPARENTLY, Walmart is pretty stupid and runs advertisements on their reciepts well past the prime date. Thus some people are still getting the "Princess Diaries December 18" ad. It seemed like a very simple an logical conclusion to me, but I guess not.

Good luck to all who feel that this is still legit and can find it... Maybe I'll check my local Walmarts... At least gas is cheap enough to drive all over the place looking right?

If that is your reasoning for fetermining that the receipts were fake then you are as full of it as the originator of this thread. I purchased some items at Wal-Mart today and the December 18th advertisement is on my receipt! The deal was legit with emphsis on was. However, Wal-Mart/Philips corrected the mistake long ago so the deal was dead before it was originally posted. For the few people that were in the right place at the right time - congrats!

For those negatives to my post --- yes, it is my first post here, but not in these types of forums.

I thought that the information that I received from my buddy's search would be of some value to all of you, and hoped that by doing so it might help someone else to get in on this deal, since what he learned confirmed some of the information that others had gotten and posted. Thus it appeared that there is some basis for this being, or at least having been, a real deal.

I thought that sharing information about deals to help each other was the whole point of this forum , but it appears that I was badly mistaken based on some of the replies to my post. It had been my intent to further "update" it with anything additional that I might learn, but I'm now thinking I'm better off keeping it to myself.

Yikes, so much negativity here. You would think the poster insulted your mom or something. Why would being a newbie with 1 post matter when all he was doing was attemting to help with information. This flaming kind of makes me wonder if you just discovered the internet recently. This is getting old especially for someone who's been using the internet for more than 10 years.

It reminds me of the net before it became the "information superhighway" and the freshmen would get on in the fall. At least back then it only happened once a year and it settled down in a couple of months.

Not to interfere with StealthGlass's post at all, but the only thing that doesn't sit right with me is the average Wal-Mart Shopper is more interested in buying Washing Supplies and Cat Litter than even looking at the items in the Electronic Department.

The majority of Wal-Mart Shoppers live in or near a trailer park. This is not meant as an insult to anyone, but is alas a fact.

In other words, they wouldn't even know what a DVDR/W Drive is! So to target the "regular" shopper with such a "deal" seems absurd.

So either Wal-Mart is a bit out of touch with reality, or they are trying to get the more techie oriented people into the store.

At any rate, I do not doubt that indeed the Store Manager told this information to to StealthGlass's friend. In other words, this is not a "liar liar...pants on fire" post.

Stealth thanks for the info. Its something for us all to consider. You have to expect that a lot of people will have their doubts about anything said on this topic since no one has really proved anything yet.... So dont worry when you get flamed, its bound to happen and dont take it personally.Welcome to AT.
Its possible what this manager said was his take (or his mgrs take) on explaining what happened and not necessarily what the real story is if we could reach high enough up in the chain to ever find out the truth. The real facts may remain the "area 54" of wallyworld....

Okay, I'm going to put an end to this. As I stated in the previos thread, I am a manager for Wal-Mart. I said I would decrypt the transaction code, but didn't because everyone insisted it was real. I just wrote the TC down in my wallet and will check it out tonight.

It's probably a cdrw drive that the manager was talking about anyway and not a dvd-rw drive. That sounds more likely.

Sorry I was tired and mistakenly wandered into the disco.Although its possible it was a cover for a clandestine backdoor entry into area 51.
My point was although this all looks like so much hype with no substance and many are thinking this is a scam....Im reminded of a post by Qpid, some of you will remember it,a very hot deal on a HD at BB.A lof of people called him a liar, the thread got locked, and I assumed it was a price mistake that would have been solved systemwide even before his post since I think it was a day or two after the fact.Well I was proven wrong when a guy that I know personally who lives 10 miles from me went to our BB here the next day after the post as the doors opened and was given that deal after he saw the sign up on it.Its unlikely, but possible that some AT will score one of these drives.Scuse me while I go back to my episode of the "Twilight Files " J/k

Rag15 and Jasonja,
Who cares if it is his first post or not? Does that make him or anyone else that has less posts than either of you an idiot? Is it impossible that this guy got some information that he believes is valid and is trying to share it with everyone?
It is statements like yours that make people not want to post stuff. But what do I know, seeing how this is only my second post. My IQ must be below 50 or I am a liar. If you doubt what he says fine but be an adult and keep your opinions to yourselves. Basically, growup.
