May not be bad at all for those of us on the East Coast. NetFlix was un-bearable as shipping times between here & CA were 5-7 days each way. Looks like Wal-Mart set up their distribution center in Carrollton, GA. Should be able to get 2-day delivery here in NC. Might have to sign up for this!

Great Post!!

Good post! I wonder if the selection and speed is better then Netflix. Has anyone tried them?

Netflix has had new distribution centers on the west coast for some time. There's one in NY now, and another one somewhere down south.

Netflix has about 15 centers now so it shouldn't be 5-7 days for anyone. I have one about an hour and a half away from me so I get my DVDs next day. I've heard a few problems with Wal-Mart, mainly being they don't sort returns and ship new DVDs same day like Netflix, and that their "in-stock" status isn't very accurate. Overall, I'm really happy with netflix.

Well I live in Athens,GA which is at most 2 hours away from Carrollton,GA and it still takes 2-3 days for me to receive the movies as opposed to netflix which only takes 1 day

when I tried walmart about 6 months ago they sucked and sucked hard. It took like 2 to 3 days to get the dvd when they said they sent it. I live in CA. Also you couldn't tell what was in stock. The selection was horrible. Now whose to say in the 7 months of their 'trial run' they didn't correct all these problems. Anyone willing to test them out? I doubt they'll give me another free 30 days. I cancelled them after 2 weeks cuz it was a hopeless cause.

Per the news story found here : http://apnews.excite.com/article/20030610/D7RJ558O0.html

"Wal-Mart has 13,000 movie titles and it will have distribution points in Arkansas, California, Georgia, Indiana, Nevada and New York. Lin said the retailer plans more in the future."

I am no big fan of Wal-mart, but they are masters at the supply chain and logistics, and the problems people are describing in this thread are covered by those 2 areas. If wally world's past performance is any guide, they will solve those problems real fast.

Doesn't Netflix offer a "light" renters program, I won't rent $20 worth of DVDs a month and I thought they had something new for around $9, but I couldn't find it anywhere, any of you members know?

do you think like all other walmart things, these dvds are censored.

Maybe not yet but this is exactly why no one should support their service. Once they eliminate competition they can do what ever they want. Though I am sure they will not be able to knock netflix out that easy. If Netflix gets in trouble some big company(Best Buy) will just buy them out.

Yep, I go into this deal. I'm not sure how many DVD you can rent with other DVD rental, but I think renting 2 DVDs at one time is too little.

Wait for DVD to arrive ======> 1 week
Returning DVD ============> 1 week
Waiting for the next DVD ====> 1 week
Returning DVD ============> 1 week
-----------------
there goes 1 month. And that are only 4 DVDs. Come on...

but I'll give it a shot.

I believe Best Buy already owns an interest in NetFlix...
FYI, saw on the financial news yesterday that NetFlix posted a profit for the first time this quarter.

You should definately try both netflix and the walmart service. I used both, but netflix was much faster, so the walmart account was cancelled. I'm sure this was due to the fact that Netflix has a distribution center closer to where I live.

Best Buy gets paid money for every netflix signup they get. I think its like 15 or 20 dollars. Its 55 dollars for every MSN signup. Thats why they push it so much.

I have used both. I like Netflix and their rating system, which lets them suggest similar movies you may like according to your movie taste. I found Walmarts website much harder to navigate, no reliable user ratings and much slower then Netflix. I even e-mailed Walmart these reasons when i canceled, but their reply clearly showed they don't care. I guess there is enough suckers to make it worth their while.

BUT, competition is always a good thing and will only help make netflix even better.

I've tried both and Netflix beats the heck out of Wally World. Walmart is extremely slow and availability is horrible. I'll stick with Netflix!

I recently (this week) signed up for walmart 30 day trial, netflix 14 day trial and filmcaddy.com 30 day trial.

I emailed walmart and was told they only have a distribution center in georgia, they are supposed to be able to track your dvd's as soon as you drop them in the mailbox. As soon as they receive tracking notice from the usps they will ship your next selection (I signed up for 4 at a time free trial, will cancel next month).

Netflix, I received my first movie the next day, too bad they didn't ship all three from the same location at the same time.

Filmcaddy.com (I think blockbuster has a stake in this) is based in arizona and claim 2-3 day delivery time...we'll see

time to warm up the dvd burner....

I live in Tenn., so I wonder what the turn around will be for me? I'm getting all my Netflix DVD's from Atlanta, so hopefully it will be faster. Worth a shot....

I got in on this, selected four movies which are all available now - and over night they all turned into LONG WAIT.

Also, make sure you find some time to read up on this article on how to determine your priority in getting movies

I think I'll stick with my good old Tivo for a while longer to satisfy my appetite for entertainment.
