Netflix always did the same to me. It was great the first few months, then slowly it took longer and longer for them to receive/send them. I began marking DVDs as "lost" just to try and get some sooner. In the end, it was cheaper to go to the local Blockbuster. I'm trying the Walmart now just to see...

I have been a member at netflix for 7+ months now and it has gotten better every couple months. I am on the east coast and get my movies in 1-2 days and they receive my returns in 1-2 days. I tried walmarts free trial last month and they were horrible took little over 1 week to get my movies and they skipped my first 2 movies even though it said they were avail. Im sticking with netflix

I'm not sure why everyone is having such trouble. The site works perfectly for me and so far I can send back my DVDs and have the new ones in 4 days which I feel is very good. That's a much quicker turn-around than I get with Netflix.

My distro center is in GA.

One thing to think about is lost DVD's. A friend of mine has netflix we live on long island, no problems getting the DVD's but she's had a few of them get lost in the mail. Netflix didn't charge her for the lost DVD's and they do try to straighten out the situation with the postal service. When I told her about the Walmart deal she mentioned something about them charging you for the DVD if it's lost in the mail? I'm not 100% sure about this but it is something to check in their terms of service. Could get expensive.

I am currently signed up for the Walmart trial; did the 3 movies and paid something like $3.00 for first month. I live in Seattle area; a long way from their Georgia distribution center. They have a tracking system on their return envelopes so that USPS scans the information and sends it back to Walmart. They then send you next DVD on list without actually receiving it.

Sounds great in principle, but reality is different. I dropped first 3 movies back and mail and received 1 email back indicated Walmart had received info from USPS. USPS did not scan the other 2. So, turnaround for me on movies not scanned by USPS is about 10-11 days, which is way too long.

I will cancel at end of trial.

I will be canceling, too. I am also experiencing long turn around times. I've mailed a set of DVDs to both Netflix and Walmart on Sat. Both go to Ga. Netflix receives them on Mon/Tues send out my movies so that I can get them by the weekend. Walmart won't ship out until Thurs/Fri....not worth it to me considering how much better Neflix service is. If it ain't broke....

Absolutely! Wal-Mart's hype says there is "no risk" in signing up for their free trial, however if you read the first page of their "How it works" section you'll see this:

For each DVD lost or not returned, a $17.88 fee plus tax will be charged to your credit card.

Great, thanks but no thanks Wal-Mart, you SUCK (as usual). Who here is willing to trust them not to accidentally lose your discs? From the experiences posted here, it sounds like they can't even be trusted to send out discs and process returns in an efficient manner.

Check your credit card carefully. I got charged 19 bucks for something - called and they claimed I got a movie which I didn't return. Well, I said no, and they took it off my card, so the claim. And they will investigate with USPS. Funny how returning a movie takes only one day, but sending one out like 3 days.

Anyway, I am out of here.

Being slow in sending/processing movies is COMPLETELY different than falsely charging customers. One is against the law, I'll let you figure out which one.

I'm not defending their DVD program (unless they make some amazing changes I'll probably be signing up with NetFlix myself) but to say that they're likely to commit fraud because they're a little slow with their service is just ridiculous.

We will see. I am going to keep an eye on my credit card bill because two of the DVDs they claimed sent to me never got here.

i'm on the east coast and Netflix was GREAT for me, distribution centers are REGIONAL, they don't all come from CA you know.

They have widescreen. I dont believe you can choose whether you receive widescreen or not but 2 out of the 6 I received so far have been WS.

I have bought over half of my DVD's from Walmart and just about all of them were widescreen.

Now your local manager may not buy WS but mine does.

Also many people like FS and not WS.

I also feel like chiming in with basically a similar story to most ppl. I am in my first paid month of Netflix currently, and it seems that the movies came quickly at first but are taking longer to arrive just after a few weeks. Just started the Walmart trial and two were mailed but only one has arrived so far (took over a week to arrive). I'll probably cancel both after this month.

My story..

I've had netflix for 3 months now. The new dvd's used to come 2 days after I dropped the old ones in the mail. Now it takes about 3-4 days. There are a few things on my queue of 100 that are listed as long wait, a couple with short wait. With the 3-out subscription, I usually have 1 dvd per night to watch about 3-5 days out of the week. I find this acceptable.

I signed up for Walmart DVD rental a month ago. Took the 30 day free trial. Put about 20 dvds on my queue. Out of the 4 that I received in the 30 day period, three of them were at the bottom of my list. Yes, I received only 4 in 30 days. This is very pathetic considering there is a distribution center about 3 hours away. I made various complaints via their email customer service, but the only consulation I was given is a 5 dollar credit on my first paying month of service. I find this unacceptable.

I have cancelled my Walmart subscription, and I am keeping Netflix.

OK, maybe Wal-Mart won't intentionally commit fraud, but they will lose DVDs on the way TO you or on the way FROM you and then they will charge you for it. Or maybe the USPS will lose it. Either way, as a consumer, you're charged for a DVD you didn't buy or have any intention of buying. Just read the experiences here, just about every Wal-Mart DVD renter has had the "lost disc" charge appear on the credit cards. That doesn't happen with NetFlix. Case closed.

I tried the service - one month = 7 DVD's with quick turnaround on my part with 4 out at a time.

One time the website showed 2 returned on a Thursday - Next 2 shipped out on Monday!

Netflix was slow for me but still quicker that WallyWorld. (In 20 days Netflix turnaround was 7 with 3 out at a time)

As previously stated I have had zero problems with the Wal-Mart DVD rental and the turn-around time has been very good (better for me than Netflix). I'm on my fifth shipment of DVDs (in about 3 weeks) and my only complaint would be that availability has declined as more people have signed up.

I can also assure everyone that any charge for a lost DVD would not stay on my credit card for more than a day. One phone call and it would be gone. The verbage about lost DVDs is a pretty common ploy intended to scare anyone who might attempt to keep the DVDs and claim they returned them. An honest customer that complains will have the charge removed.

IMHO everyone should try both Netflixs and Wal-Mart to see which gives them the best turn-around time where they live and then use that service. It's all about the turn-around time.

Strange, cause Walmart trial I tried, and it is slow as h3ll for me. Takes like a week or so each way. Netflix I get movies every 2 days..... IE Walmart sucks!

I have got only three DVDs and I am three days away from the end of trail period. The last two DVDs are claimed to be sent out on July 1, and they have not got to me! I seriously doubt that Walmart intentionaly delay the process of shipment. They tell you the DVD is mailed but they actually wait for a couple days before send it out. After all, the fewer DVDs you get, the more profit for them. If they do this during the trail period, you can imagine what they will do when you are paying.

I signed up for the free Walmart and Netflix trials. For me, the turnaround time at Walmart has been better than Netflix. This may be due to my location - I'm in TN, the returns go to AR. From what I can surmise, Netflix seems to not receive or send DVD's on Saturday which slows down the process somewhat compared to walmart.

Walmart is also less expensive, but does not have the variety that Netflix has. Free rentals for a month is definitely a good deal.
