I'm not married, but If I was, I would have my panic room stacked with computer, video games, movies and books and I'd lock myself in whenever the tidal wave of pms hits. :X

So, is there anyone on ATOT who has a panic room? What do you keep in it?

I would love to have a big "fire safe" room to store some hard drives and passport, etc ...
My basement is pretty sturdy/safe from tornados, but, a proper bunker would be sweet.

I'm not concerned about criminal types, since I would just shoot at them with a 357 until I run out of bullets.

nah my house is pre-cold war so it doesn't have one.

I just keep a quick start Stihl chainsaw under my pillow. Anybody comes through my door that I don't want and they get a chainsaw to the face.

When I was planing out my server room original plan was to build it with reinforced concrete/rebar filled cinder blocks and poured rebar reinforced ceiling, and large solid metal/stone door. Basically like a huge vault which would have had the bonus of acting as a panic room. That way if someone breaks into my house it will be hard to get to the servers. But it proved to be too big of a project as I'd probably need to dig a footing for all that weight and not just put it straight on the concrete floor. So opted for normal construction and an outside door with lock, will be starting soon. I have an alarm system anyway and the file server (most critical) is pretty heavy. Odds of someone getting my data are quite slim.

I do however have a crawlspace under my garage that is concrete all around. If I built a heavy duty door to get to it, it could act as a nice panic room. Could possibly survive something like a tornado in there though I don't think the slab is that thick so a falling semi truck or other vehicle would probably crash right through.

the article states that every home in Israel has one. except that in Israel, it serves as a bomb shelter. we don't have tornadoes, or other severe storms. we do have rockets.

thus, according to law, every home has to have a fortified room.

in that case it will be cheap to hire private security for the gated communities or apartment blocks, no panic room needed.

I read it's mostly bomb shelters though, and that you wouldn't be able to survive a nuclear holocaust.
