I live 2 miles from a "proposed" route. Not sure what they mean by that, but they seem to go by train tracks and I'm about 2 miles from train tracks.

A nuclear waste route can't be too far considering Hanford is only a hop, skip, and a 125 mile jump away. I know I'm scared.

I'm moving in August and the info for that address is:

Not that it matters. I work 5 minutes from a Chemical Weapons incinerator.

Looks like I win for living the safest distance and you win for living the most dangerous distance.

Your prize: a slow and painful death.

So how far are you from the source?

My apartment's about 7 miles away from nuclear waste and my parents' house is over 10 miles away. Looks like I'm safe, and I have no reason to care about this issue.

I've probably got everybody beat. I'm from Morris, IL. You know, the home of one of the first ever Nuclear Power Plants. This area is one of the most concentrated areas of Nuclear Power Plants I believe. Three nuclear plants within something like a 60 mile radius with a 4th being planned from what I hear.

There's one in Zion, Dresden here by Morris and one in Braidwood.

I'm right off of I-80 here, which is supposed to be the biggest route for the waste to travel on. 80 is .3 miles .. it goes right through Morris here. In addition it said I was 8 miles from Dresden, the plant.

Some other information you guys might be interested in hearing. I recently completed a environmental science course here at college and my professor hinted to us how they plan on shipping this waste. They are going to use semi-trucks (wide load) shipping the waste with huge cement reinforcement to help stop the radiation supposedly. Despite this, and according to the professor, the radiation coming from these trucks is equivelent to (not sure amount) of an X-Ray.

Wow, great news to me.. I travel over an hour on I-80 each day going to school and back total. :Q

Anyone aware that they store low level nuclear waste in hospitals because of the expense of disposing of it & the fact no one wants to transport it or store it?

More scare tactics from the environmentalist wacko left.
They don't just load a few rusting 55ga. drums on the back of Bubba's truck ond go scooping the loop with it. The transport systems designed to move the waste are some of the most accident proof systems ever designed. You ought to see what they do to them down at Sandia labs in N.M.

That's most likely just a rumor. It's much cheaper to store it in-house at nuclear facilities instead than take it in and out of a hospital all the time...

That's kind of funny actually.

Edit: Since you sound like you know a lot about this subject Tiger, why don't you inform us of how they plan on shipping it then?

I work in a hospital, and confirmed it with the Chief of Radiology, it's not a rumor that large hospitals store their own waste to save money. We're building a new containment area...

They will ship it in hardened casks on flatbed trucks and railcars.
Those casks have been designed to survive a fully loaded F4 fighter being flown into them at 500mph. They would have survived the WTC. The video of the tests down at Sandia labs is damn impressive.
