want a cool shortcut to shutdown and restart in XP?

I'm sure you guys allready know these, but for the newbies....

Works in XP only!

Shutdown PC

Right click anywhere on desktop
click on New/Shortcut
In box that opens type:
shutdown -s -t 0 *0 is a zero fyi*
In next box Rename it whatever you want (Shutdown PC, etc.)

You can change the icon to whatever you want by right clicking icon/change icon

Same with Restart:
except type in:

shutdown -r -t 0 *0 is a zero*
renaming it Restart or whatever

to shutdown or restart just double click the Icons....

I use them all the time and love em!

If you don't want that cluttering up the desktop, you could also put these shortcuts into a folder and either change the environmental variable PATH or put the PATH [newpath] command into the bootup sequence. Then you can access it from the run box, which is what I do.

The quickest way I can think of to shutdown the computer is to hit the power button. =)

I don't know...I use them all the time and everybody I've done that for loves em....

Check out shutdown -i

It pops up a GUI and you can use it for the local machine or other machines. I use it all the time to restart multiple webservers after we do a database change or something.

This works fine for me. For those of you that don't know, you can set-up Windows to properly power/shut down when you press the power button (i've used this for years). Thanks for the cool short-cuts.
