im gonna build a new machine very soon, i need recommendation on a new video card and a new 17 inch flat monitor

its either 64mb mx 400 geforce 2 or, Radeon LE (hard to find in australia), or a kyro 2, i mainly play CS, quake 3, serious sam, roguespear, Need for speed: porche unleashed. and i read lots of text, so im trying to find a card thats relatively cheap, and gives me good performance in those games, i would be playing in around about 1280x987 or something like that without FSAA and vsync on.

and for the monitor, its gonna be a flatty 17 inch, i have a LG studioworks 775n (17 inch but not flat), im gonna look for a monitor thats better than that, gives me more refresh rate at higher resoluion like 1280x987, and it has to be at a reasonable price, dont worry about sony, i cant afford one.
Is a normal non-flat sony trinitron 17 inch better than a, say 17 inch flat viewsonic or flat samsang monitor.

future machine specs: (cant afford DDR, too expensive in australia)

I play need for speed porsche unleashed and read lots of text also. I went with the Radeon and love it, It's a great mix between awesome 2d and 3d.

Kyro II is far faster then the Geforce 2 MX400 and also a allot faster then the Radeon LE. If you tweak the LE (enabled hyper z and manage to overclock it to 180mhz) then it comes closer in performance to the Kyro II but still not as fast as Kyro II. The Radeon and Kyro II have very good 2d image quality and the MX400 is likely to be a bit blury at anything over 1024x768 in 2d. So basically forget the MX400, its neither fast enough from the start nor can it overclock enough to come close to challenging the Kyro II and its 2d isn't great. So its between the Radeon LE and Kyro II now. Which is cheapest for you? Are you prepared to overclock the LE? (its not guarenteed to clock to 180mhz). IMO considering your new machine the best card for you is the Kyro II as long as it doesn't cost your too much over there in Australia.

I agree with Teasy there. Kyro 2 is very fast, and it always is faster than the Radeon DDR. In some cases, the Kyro 2 is faster than the GF2 Ultra due to the card's architecture and that because it is 100
% effecient. I would recommend the Kyro 2.

Radeon or Kyro, either way you won't be disappointed. Check into their features and see which one fits your needs better; if you want industry-best video playback, though, the Radeon is the clear choice. Bang for the buck, the LE might be the best video card on the market, but the Kyro has its good points too.

I'd recommend the Radeon LE over the Kyro 2 just because i've used the Radeon LE and i know it is a very good mix between 2d and 3d. I can play CS at 1152x860 w/ 2x fsaa on fine, so i'd imagine 1280x960 would be fine. It's extremely fast, 2d is crisp and clear. Hope some Kyro 2 users can shed some light here.
