C'mon guys, chill out with the flaming. I for one have been waiting for a deal on the RipGo ever since I bought one for $20. Some of my friends liked it so much that they bought their own for $100. Others are waiting for a hot deal like this so seeing it at $50 is awesome.

And for the peeps saying "I can get a (insert hard drive or memory mp3 device here) for $49" or whatever, you need to get educated. The RipGo is a portable mini-CD BURNER that happens to play MP3. Show me a portable data storage device with ~$.30 200MB removable desktop CD-drive-compatable media for $49. Go on, I dare ya...didn't think so.

Again, the whole idea here is to get people a portable mp3 player for a few bucks. If you can find a better deal than $50 for this one post it. Fine, whatever, I'm not here to compete. Just trying to help. There isn't a Flash-memory based player out there right now I'd touch over this thing. But you know what they say about opinions...

You've never received ANY rebates, br0adband?!
I'm sorry to hear that... I agree with kdegarmo when he says you must be doing something wrong. I think I've received all but 1 or 2 I've ever applied for... and then all I had to do was phone or send a letter to get that 1 or 2, but I eventually received them.
Sorry to hear about your bad luck with rebates! :frown:

I think what is drawing the ire of people, as reflected in the postings, is that the original poster lacks perspective but doesn't seem to understand that. First off, this is far from the hottest deal ever. Heck, even by the always hyperbolic standards of this group that's a ridiculous claim. This is hardly the hottest deal of the day. I might even argue that it's not hot period. So the subject line alone is going to annoy people.

Then there's the posting. Nearly a short story to basically say one thing: CompUSA, RipGo, $50. There, that was easy, right? The remaining 5000 words of background and life story really don't impart ANYTHING to the posting. That also annoys people. A long rambling post with a big payoff, say "blah blah blah lifestory blah blah blah so then I went blah blah blah found a 2Ghz laptop is now $99.95" would be forgiven, because the payoff is so good. But here? No payoff.

So that's the problem. Lack of perspective by a relative newbie, and no acknowledgement of same by said newbie.

brevity begats longevity.

cool if you like these little units i s'pose.

anyone remember the very first mini CD Sony walkman player that came out in like 1991? *almost* bought one. it had a slot on two sides in the lid so a normal music CD could stick out and still be played

don't the current smattering of minidisc players do all this too? and they are rewritable

HOTTEST deal ever??? LMAO when I reached the final price of $50!!! @ $20, it's still not the hottest deal ever! It's a good deal then, and not a deal now, unless you really need it. I've got one when it was $20 and rarely use it, I like my Sony MD more. Sorry br0adband, you were so excited with the deal and that irritated people.

The hottest deal ever would be finding a way to make all these critical little asswipes to grow the F*** up.

If you don't like the deal, don't buy it! It's not like he's breaking the rules or misleading anyone. Personally, I DID read his whole post, and I appreciate someone going to the trouble of sharing his hot deal and his opinion on the product. It beats the HELL out of all you "cool" insiders who apparently do massive searches before every post, just so we can save $10 if we fill out three rebates and try to defraud the store with someone else's coupon.

Cut him some slack. Or better yet, go to fatwa**et, and be "cool" over there.

There are 2 issues here. Kwad's post only addressed the latter:

WHAT was posted: $50 for a RipGo is a hot deal for some of us, and so we appreciated seeing it here. The people saying otherwise are missing the point of this board.

HOW it was posted: bad title, lengthy post. So tell the author that and be done. Continually claiming this is not a hot deal is flaming IMO. Calling the author a newbie is uncalled for and makes ATHD an unfriendly place. Have respect for others and learn a little humility.

Actually if you bother to check out that place once in a while you will find that most poster there got excited over nothing. That is the place to post where you got a pat in the back for doing something stupid.
Here at AT, people are honest. If you suck, we'll let you know about it (vice versa).

If Millhouse do something stupid at school, what did he get ?
A beating by Nelson.

I found the original post to be broken down well and a quick read.

People think it's not a good deal just because they've seen it for $20 already (Whoever thinks that wasn't a deal is a total retard). What nobody realizes is that the only reason it was EVER under $100 is because the product bombed, BIG TIME and all they can to is throw 'em off the shelf because they're never going to sell them otherwise.

I think it bombed because no one wants to pay the extra money for built-in CD burner if it's so limited it can't burn full-sized discs.

I however, find it incredible for XBOX hacking. Who the hell want's a non-expandable USB flash-memory key just for modding their XBOX when this will do just perfectly? XBOX memory cards are simply USB Mass Storage compatable devices, but they are too low-capacity. XBOX Linux can be booted on an unmodified XBOX and can flash the XBOX with a mod BIOS without a mod chip) $1 per megabyte is considered cheap there. With this, you get hundreds of megabytes for nearly nothing and you can store all your XBOX and Linux utilities on it. PERFECT. Oh, and the OFFICIAL XBOX USB adapter is FREE (Pay only S&H) from MS' web site.

I missed the $20 sale at CompUSA and never thought I'd see the deal resurface again now that they should have all been gone (That's an insane price for any external burner). Thanks original poster!

Thanks for a heads up! My Creative Nomad II bombed a month ago after excessive droppage, bumpage, abusage, smashage, and electrocutage...the external flash media port refuses to read properly anymore, so I've been out of portable music for a while. And getting this for $53.86 is a great deal (for me personally cuz some ok CD players cost just as much), although I do regret not having jumped on this when it was $20 or so AR, it's still not so bad @ $50...some less junk bought for computers, 15 or so less frappucinos after there's my $50 back.

Don't let some users here intimidate you, as I've discovered for some odd reason AT'ers are rather cynical and subjective...I have not been here long enough to know what it is, and honestly I just skip them when I look at a deal, so there.

One thing for those who want in though: the model is discontinued, and they're no longer on display at the MP3/Digital camera/expensive video card/wireless phones counter, so you just give the CSR the SKU, and if they have it in stock and claim that they don't, just ask him/her nicely to check in the cabinet under the counter...that's where my guy found one. On the website it's $99.99, but at scan it says $49.99

Anyhow, are there know quality issues with this baby?

dont you ppl know...

there is nothing wrong with thread crapping in the hotdeal forums.. if i posted a deal and a bunch of ppl didn't think it was that great.. I would want to know about it! Then I could wait on my purchase and just take advantage of everyone else's hotdeal experiences..

no biggie no one loses any money.. its not like you are selling anything

Wow .. this looks like a cool lil gadget. My buddy has a Compaq Ipaq (similar mp3/CD device) and loves it. I don't have a C-USA anywhere near me but if its available elsewhere I may pick one up. Thx for the deal, br0adband.
