This is slightly off topic, but I've wanted to warn people about these, and wish someone had warned me before I bought two of them (back when they were $30 AR). These units are absolute crap in build quality. They are slow, have awful firmware, and break down very quickly -- both of mine have stopped recognizing discs after four months of use even though they have been treated very well. Battery life is about 2 hours, with around 2.5 hours being the longest I've ever seen with a full charge. Also, search and programming "features" are afterthoughts poorly implemented. Nothing on them is intuitive.

I enjoyed having such a (relatively) small player, but with 2 hour life and such poor reliability, they are a waste of time. And what are you going to do with your new 8cm disc collection when it does break?

Cherub, why are you adding your real-life experiences if they are negative. We only deal with happy thoughts in this thread. If you can't describe experiences that support the assertion that this is the "hottest deal ever" then you are obviously just trying to put down a newbie (oops, inexperienced poster) and shouldn't post.

Apparently, the only posts acceptable in this thread are:

1) "Dude, what an excellent post! Thanks..."

2) Great post, great player, thanks.

3) This IS the hottest deal ever on the HOTTEST player ever. Thanks.

4) Sure am glad you posted that novel describing your experiences in finding a MP3 player, and sure am glad you posted this greatest of great deals. Thanks.

5) I just tossed that POS 10gb hard drive based mp3 player I got at Target at $50. What kind of a fool must I have been to not realize that THIS is the hottest deal ever, not that.

6) Is everyone feeling the love in this thread as much as me? Thanks.

Kwad

Cherub, your thoughts are relevant and appreciated. Thanks for your contributions.

Maybe Kwad and his band of merry wankers can learn from you on how to make an appropriate criticism of a product. But I'm not holding my breath.

And one more thing, Kwaddie Wankers: If you can't understand the difference between being having basic respect for people and being a Mr Sunshine who only makes positive posts, then it's time to do something about it. Be proactive - ask your mommies to trade in your computer for a Playstation and we'll all be happier.

Ah Rio Rebel, my guess is you didn't do to well on the SAT Verbal huh? Kwad's message was totally sarcastic and was meant to show the general tone of replies that had been posted to this message to start with. So it was mostly a joke, which you didn't get. So why not actually try to understand a post before you flame it.

I defintely appriciate the feedback on the device. I was actually thinking of picking one up. The concept is very solid, but if the build quality is crap then I'm not interrested. Does anyone know of a similar device that is supported and works well? Something with a car adapater would be very nice also.

My SATS were pretty dang good, particularly in comprehension, and Kwad's satire is directed at the poster and anyone who doesn't agree with him (Kwad). Sorry, but the satire isn't sharp enough to get me to ignore the humor and entertainment in the original poster's post.
I do think this is a good deal. The Target Archos was better but it ain't available any longer. There have been mixed reactions to the build qualit, etc. and that's what I expect to read in a hot deal thread. In that vein, I think Kwad's just having a good time, but so was the guy who posted the deal. So everyone have  and go back to bed.

The titlle of ths post is misleading. It made me think we were talking solid state, or even like an ipod

LOL. Daleon, you might try reading his post again yourself, before you chime in. Next time you criticize someone for not getting the point, make sure you get it yourself. And avoid the SAT comparison. Otherwise, you might end up looking like a total jackass.

For example......say......right now.

Hmm, I had referred a few friends here because they wanted Ripgo deal but now I'm ashamed that I did thanks to the arrogant sarcastic aholes that have seemed to flock to this thread for some reason. Just so Kwad doesn't start spinning the posts again, let me clarify - Cherub's post was helpful criticism, much appreciated. Someone crapping on this deal because they got a better deal 2 months ago or a completely different device at Target 2 weeks ago or they don't know the difference between a cd player and burner is USELESS.

But hey, it's a free board, post what you want. I'm kinda glad this debate occured so us "newbies" know which l33t members to ignore and which ones actaully have brains.
