I have that board in my main box as well. It's excellent.

The only drawback is that it only supports up to XP2200+'s due to its KT266 chipset. Other than that, it's a wonderful board.

I got two of those last week in the mail, retail boxed and straight from MSI to replace two Pro-2A boards that crapped on me within a couple of months. Funny thing is I didn't even think they were still under warranty but called anyway. The minute I mentioned which boards I had the CSR said mail them in and we will send you 2 new upgraded boards!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA......anyway, the new ones are great so far.

KT133A not KT266A.
Which places it about 4 generations old. (KT400, KT333, KT266a, KT133a)

There are many boards out there now that support both sdram and DDR,
and they are a lot more modern than this one, for about the same price.

It's nice to use old memory for now, but it's nicer to be able to simply upgrade memory to DDR when it's priced right.
Can't do that with this board.

Probably cuz the Pro2a's were a POS board. I bought one at the recommendation of Anandtech and it gave me tons of reliability problems. Lately I get random Boot-ROM fails. I remember reading about a needed resister that was not installed on many of the V.1 boards. I am reluctant to buy another MSI product.

I skip this board and get a AK32L SHTL from newegg for $55.
AK32L board support BOTH PC133 and DDR, anyone use it before??

I can use this with my old PC133 and when DDr price went down, I can upgrade it... or just get another board with faster chipset....

I've had nothing but excellence with the MSI K7T series.

Besides the 3 in my current system rigs, I've also had 2 K7T Pro2a's which were also great.
All very stable with no problems at all.

Incidentally, I also bought the K7T Turbo 2 from here a couple months back.
Good vendor, w/free shipping.

What about the ECS K7S5A which supports PC133 and DDR ram and is a faster chipset and is cheaper at 54 dollars shipped at newegg....

Yeah seriously, don't buy a KT133A mobo these days. Most of these boards don't support XPs out of the box, you have to flash them. Plus the KT133A was kind of a crappy chipset, it was buggy as hell.

Roger that, I agree, there are way newer/better chipsets for sale at a VERY REASONABLE price. Don't get me wrong, I have this board as well as other MSI boards(and epox). My boys & I kickass online nightly with this. But yes, the original KT133 chipsets (resistor in the wrong place issue) and SOME subsequent boards had some issues. (as does most any mfgr. from time to time). How much do you really expect for fifty bucks?? Spend a little more, get a little better. But, for the price & some reasonably priced PC133, joila!! instant gaming, er, uh, I mean computing. imho

Don't forget the KT266 chipset...

If I wanted PC133 support on an Athlon XP board I think I'd reach for the Biostar M7VIG. It is VIA KM266 chipset (which shares the VT8233A Southbridge chipset with the KT266 & KT333, I believe), it has onboard audio, video and LAN, plus an AGP slot, 3 PCI slots, a CNR slot, 2 SDRAM PC133 slots and 2 DDR slots. It runs about $59 delivered and I don't think it is quite as picky about RAM or power supplies as the ECS K7S5A. It currently supports up to an Athlon XP2600+ processor. The board runs about $59 delivered.

Frankly, I don't thing there is that much real world performance differences between SDRAM and DDR (or for that matter, between the KT133A and KT400) for the sorts of things most people do with their computers and these days SDRAM is about half the price of DDR.

I hopped on this deal too when my epox kt133e board died mysteriously on me the other day after 1.5 years of faithful service (no clue what happened there).

Got it for $56 shipped on Friday, and UPS looks like it's delivering it today. The place is a good retailer too (7.8 or so on the resellerratings). The title said it was retail but the descrip said OEM Bulk. I called them and they instantly cleared it up and updated the site. The board also sold out, so I called again and they refreshed their inventory and it was back up online within seconds.

As for the board, I built my friend a system with this exact board in January w/ a Duron 900 and gf2mx200. The board is rock solid stable (he never turns it off), good for surfing and school AND plays CS well with the crappy vid card. He's used it with no problems and he's not the keenest when it comes to computers.

Any mobos similiar to this or the K7S5A that have sdram and RAID onboard? I'm building a power machine with 1 gig RAM around but can't afford the DDR

Ronstang,

Who did you contact for the RMA? The RMA info on the MSI site says only resellers can fill out the RMA form. Are you a reseller? Just wondering if it's worth trying to RMA the dead Pro2-A that I have here in my office.

i bout an MSI k7 master a while back at the recommendation of anandtech. it worked well for about a year. Now it has a ton of problems. Tech support at MSI was less than helpful, speaking to me as if I had no clue what I was talking about.

I doubt I'll buy anything from MSI again.

Wow Thanks, I was just going to buy one for $73 from googlegear. I like how this one has three sdram slots, and it's cheap.
