And since you yelled at me last time for not consulting here first HERE I AM

Hes Going to be 10 on June 8th I am going out to see him the 12th of april (he lives with his mother in Cali im in AZ)

I would like to get the parts and bring them all with me and teach him how to put everything together and show him how to hook it up.

I dont want to spend more than 450-500 if possible cause I need to buy a monitor as well. I need everything axcept a PSU I have a thermaltake 450w PSU, case, mb, ram, gpu, HDD I have win 7 x64 for him already.

Im sure he will use it to game but I honestly dont care if its all that powerful as its his starter comp and im sure hes going to have some issues with it since he will be learning his way around a comp in depth for the first time. Although I can help him take care of it somewhat I hope he plays with it and tries to learn new things.

So there you go. I need to be able to get all the parts ordered and delivered by the 11th. Thanks guys

MB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128455

CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103846

RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148150

HDD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136284

And a case to put it in http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119203

I still need to find the right VC to put in there. Im shaky as to whats good bad expensive or a deal. I can go around $100-120 preferably less cause I still need a monitor.

What will be his primary use for the computer?

What games will he play?

Try this thread:

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2144905

Scroll down in the LONG first post to day 1 and two.

mnewsham's done a pretty good job with his build recommendations there.

unfortunately its out of date and the deals arnt valid anymore

I have no idea what games. I might get him WoW to play with me, I just started again. But im sure whatever I get him

So I went with the final build I had posted. Out the door $402 and change I hope its a decent mid range pc for him All the parts are here so ill put it together tonight and test it and then whn i bring it to him next week Ill have him build it.

Is there any danger of just putting in the CPU w/out the heatsink to test it or will I risk burning the CPU? Id rather not put the heatsink on until the final build so I can show him everything seperate.

I wouldn't do it. There's so much risk that there's really no safe way to do it. To be honest, I've bought AMD processors exclusively for years, and I have yet to get a bad chip. I think that quality control is much better on processors simply because the binning process already requires the chip to work properly so they can separate them out. I wouldn't worry too much about needing to test it ahead of time.

I want to test the whole system. Want to make sure there is no bad parts. I guess it doesnt matter Since I dont have enough time to RMA anything anyway. i live in AZ and am bringing him the comp in Cali. I just dont want to show up and have anything be doa and then be stuck with something missing. Meh thats the chance you take building a system i guess.

Do you have a tube of thermal grease (Arctic Silver, etc.) lying around? If so, you can always test the heatsink using the stock thermal pad, then turn it off after a couple of minutes. It's unlikely the stock pad would melt too much in that amount of time, and if it does, you can just clean it off the chip and HSF with a little high-purity isopropanol and use the thermal grease when you get to California.
