Believe me, i've searched all over the place trying to find a good review on all of these and there's not much around for multifunctions. There's pretty much something wrong with all of them. I was leaning towards the HP's and Canon's. The best thing to do is go down to a best buy and print something out on all of them and do a comparison.

I'd also rec HP then Canon myself, perhaps Epson too but would avoid Lexmark and Brother ... although this is based upon my memory and not hard facts or reviews.

I bought the Epson, its an awesome deal. I got mines for compusa for $90 after rebates. $130 - $20 MIR - $20 CompUSA gift card. Plus it comes with the USB printer cable! You can't beat that!

Working where i work i see these units all day long and jagr10 hit it on the nose, they all have problems, your not going to get any "better" quality stuff from anyone. We are HP authorized, when a multifuction comes in, we just get a new one from HP, give it to the customer, ship thier old one back, they open it, say ok, the claim is closed pay them thier handling fee, and they pitch it and make a new one. Epson refurbishes thiers, but personally i have never seen any multifunctions in for service, only thier printers come in for service. Brother MFCs are the most multifuctions we get, and they stink. Lexmarks we rarely get in, and if that brand does come in its usually a laser printer (always out of warranty, never under, so they take a while to go out). Canon, i couldnt tell you, dont ever see those, but we arent authorized for those, so...

my advice, get a unit for each thing you need, get a printer to print, a scanner to scan, a fax machine to fax and copier to copy, if one breaks you dont have to take them all to get serviced, lol. But no one is made of money so, if ANYTHING towards the epson for print quality and warranty service. but thats all, they all have thier fair share if issues

I just bought the epson csx 5200 for our Scout Troop. Our printer died recently so we decided to go with an all in one format. I reseached the one in one units and decided on the epson due to 2 reasons. The water resistant ink and the speed of the printer were the major factors for me. The only differance I can see in the 3200 and the 5200 are the speed. I read somewhere this evening on a differant board that someone purchased one for Under 100, which is a steal in my opinon. Check Best buy web page on the all in one printers. You can compare them side by side which really helps.

On the epson printer questions Justorq -

No the print cartridges do not have print heads on them... If you use your printer a lot and print daily you usually won't have any problems for a few years....

If you print once or twice a week an epson isn't for you.... The heads will dry up. If the self cleaning doesn't work the 5th or 6th time through, you need to take the whole thing a part to clean the print heads, or buy a new printer...

So I guess Epson and Canon is out of the question (I print a lot)
Maybe I should just buy a new printer and scanner ...
Which scanner should i buy ... I don't want to pay more than 120$CAN for one ...
thx

I have an HP PSC750 works like a charm. I used to have an Epson printer and that thing drove me nuts.
Are you reading tippmann's post right? He's saying (and I can confirm) that if you rarely print do NOT buy an Epson printer. I know the HP cartridges are pricier but you do get the printheads changed each time.

I have a canon multipass f60 and it's great for on the fly copying, decent photo quality, and most of all, REALLY REALLY CHEAP individual ink cartridges over at www.123inkjets.com you can get two black cartridges, and 1 of each of the other colors, all combined for only $26.

The Epson cartridges will not dry up on you like you think. They would have to set a very long time before they clog the print head. I'm not sure, but was told that the epson cartridges mix a ether like substance when they print to make the ink dry. I also was told that if you poured a Canon, Epson, Hp, Lexmark Ink out on the table that the only one that would not dry out would be the Epson, because it is the only one that chemicals while it prints. Hence the higher price. The person that informed me of this sold his Laser cartridge recycling company last year. All I know is I never had a tank dry up on me nor print heads clog and I don't print every week for that matter.
