Want to buy an LCD- Is the Acer Acer AL2216Wbd 22 inch better than Samsung SyncMaster? 204B Monitor (1600 x 1200)

I read the lcd buyers thread, but did not see this siZe or monitor listed. Is the Acer AL2216Wbd Black 22" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 700:1 - Retail
a good one to get for gaming? I have a 7900 GTO (soon to be G80 GTX). My current CRT I have had for 6 years and is faded. Thanks alot. Here is the link

well, my friend told me to get the Samsung SyncMaster? 204B Monitor (1600 x 1200)
b/c of its ability to run this resoltion compared to the lower resolution max of 1680x1050. He said the screen would look much larger. Do you guys agree?

Does the square screen give a better, fuller picture size than the widescreen?

a friend of mine bought this (well assuming its the costco one). and its great. the colors are fantastic . i did not know budget LCDs have thhat good color these days.

acer stuff generally is pretty good considering how cheap they are. they are a huge oem, and even make the panels for a lot of their monitors.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I figure $320 is pretty cheap for a 22" 5ms LCD. Hell, anything would look better than my 6 y/o 19 "Sony CRT

It's pretty amazing except for the viewing angle when you're looking from the bottom up. I wouldn't put it higher than eye level.

This is one monitor that has made it down to my top 2, it and the dell. the deciding factor is this: Would I be able to play games in say, 800x600 at their natural aspect ratio or would the image be stretched to wide? I'm ok with unused portions on the side, but as a competitive counterstrike player this is very, VERY important to me. Thanks!

I'm not sure you could do worse.....They are both terrible from what I seen in my samples. Carry the poor color and poor view angles that goes along with TNs, and they are budget TN's so have no coating like xbrite.

I'd get one of the 20" dells... wide screen or not its up to you but the display tech is far superior.

How do you explain it's slower than 16ms displays? (see dell)

The result is logically unsurprising. Reaction time of this new 5ms monitor is strictly identical to another TN 5ms previously released, the Samsung SyncMaster 204B. The reaction time order for big monitors remains unchanged:

- The fastest is the Nec MultiSync 20WGX² (IPS 6 ms)
- then comes the MVA 8 ms (type ViewSonic VX2025wm, Belinea 10 20 30W) and some of the IPS (8 ms like the LG Flatron L2000C, and some 16 ms like the Dell 2007WFP),
- the next ones are the TN & PVA, 5 and 8 ms (including the Acer AL2216W),
- and then there the others.

First rule of LCD buying - Other than size, Never trust the listed specs !!!!

Heh, neither are great, but i own the Samsung, & use the Acer @ werk, & overall, i think i'd recommend the Acer.

I personally won't buy a WS smaller than 1920x1200, but for most people, i can recommend the 1680x1050 Acer over the Samsung 204B.

True...Out of the two acer has better veiw angles. If shackeled down to these two I'd get acer.

But then Samsung has better stand and bezel.

i have seen both of these in person. the samsung 204b seems to have really washed out colors and bad viewing angles. the acer is probably the budget monitor i'd rather stare at all day. much richer colors and blacker blacks at least.

Have had mine for about 2 weeks now, got it for $300 at MC. I like it a lot, I know there's better out there, but for 3 bills, you can't really beat it. Games look great on it, and I don't see any ghosting in Just Cause, Guild Wars, or Flatout 2, which are the 3 games I'm playing right now. It took a little adjustment out of the box, but once you have it at the right color levels, it's excellent.

Well, I ended up buying the 24 inch Dell 2407WFP. Thanks for all the help. I wanted the 1920x1200 resolution and the bigger screen. I ended up just dropping the extra dollars.
