Want to get RB or RB2, not with the bundle

Is there anything I should keep in mind? I'm terrible at drums and I don't like singing. I know I could just get the bundle but I'd end up feeling bad if I have people over and force them to play drums instead of getting to play guitar. And like I said, I'm terrible at drums. So I was thinking instead I could just get the game and a pair of guitars. Thing is, that seems to end up being a lot more expensive.

Any suggestions on where to find guitars for not too expensive? Gamestop lists them for $70 or something but I saw a bunch on eBay for under $50. And how well does RB2 handle multiple guitars? Are you limited to two or can you have three of them? Is it impossible to advance in the game without drumming/singing? I'm not super attached to the idea of a "world tour" mode (I'm fine with just doing quick play whenever I feel like it). Lastly, what makes RB2 better than RB1?

I'm not interested in going for Guitar Hero because I hate the controllers it uses. Too small. RB guitars are much nicer.

Most people I know would rather play drums. I'd look for the original GH2 wired Xplorer guitar, or the GH3 guitar, but then again I prefer the GH guitars the their RB brethren.

Are the GH:WT guitars larger than the old ones? I remember playing Guitar Hero 3 at a Best Buy a while back and the guitar was teeny-tiny. A friend of mine has Rock Band 1 and the guitar is a nice size.

RB2 instruments are pretty expensive, unless you want to pluck $200 for two guitars and a standalone game or $265 for a band kit and an extra guitar you are screwed.

GH WT is much cheaper, you can get a band kit for $140 at toyrus or a guitar kit for $75 at pretty much everywhere and the game is only $35 as well, I don't think they sell standalone guitars but you could buy 2 GH WT Guitar Kits and one Rock Band 2 standalone game, sell both GH WT games and be well under $150.

Also, you may not like drums but some people LOVE them (even more so than guitars), as for singing, many women (not many sober guys that I've seen personally) take quite a liking to it as well.

So wait, can you use the guitars from GH: WT on RB2? I did notice that GH: WT is much cheaper. RB2 is silly expensive.

How do the guitars compare to the ones from RB2? I'm sort of thinking of just getting the standard RB2 bundle anyway because that'll give me the ability to at least try to get better at drums. Although I'm not sure how... right now I'm so bad I fail songs in Easy unless I ignore the bass pedal (the bass pedal screws me up so bad I miss more notes when I use it than when I just completely ignore it). I've heard RB2 has an option to disable the pedal.

Having played RB1 a bit and GH3 only a tiny bit, I definitely prefer RB. I don't know how WT compares to 3, but I didn't really like Guitar Hero's note charts and it seemed to be more picky about timing than RB. But I didn't really play it extensively so I'm not sure.

Thanks! I found a pretty good deal on a single guitar bundle for GH:WT (under $60 for an open box return). I think I'll just get one of those and see how I like the game. It's nice to know that I'll be able to get RB or RB2 sometime in the future if I don't like Guitar Hero.

Actually, RB/RB2 have narrower timing than GH3/GHWT which makes GH feel more like playing a real instrument but GH has harder note charts (some made artificially, meaning it has notes and chords in places they shouldn't be).

EDIT: Also, for your peace of mind, Guitar Hero World Tour guitars are considerably larger than GH III guitars.

Funny, I could swear that they are about the same size... just with a slider on the neck and the buttons rearranged.. and the bigger whammy of course. But I could be wrong.

At any rate, what I wanted to suggest is that if you're going to get Rock Band, get Rock Band 2. There is no sense in buying Rock Band 1, since you can rent it or borrow it or whatever and import all but 3 of the songs into Rock Band 2 for a $5 licensing fee. So basically you buy Rock Band 2 and for an extra $5 you get all the songs from RB1 and RB2.

Except that one of my friends has Rock Band 1 and it would allow us to play online. Then again, he's not online much so it'd probably be better to just get RB2.

Anyway, I'm delaying my purchase because I have some bills to pay and there's other stuff I'd rather get, but I appreciate all the advice from this thread.

If you still haven't bitten on the GH:WT guitar bundle, you may be able to get a good deal at a Circuit City clearance. Their Guitar Hero stuff is 50% off now, I picked up a GH:WT guitar bundle last night for $50 since I didn't have the game and I wanted a second wireless guitar to use with Rock Band.
