want to have ssd as boot drive and 2 hdd in raid0 as secondary

The title sums it up. Whenever I set my bios from ahci to raid, the ssd would not make it past the boot screen and bsod on me. Ive read numorous posts around the web with people that had similair issues. Im thinking that my only solution is to buy a raid card so there would be two sata controllers to work with. Does anyone have any input?

Sounds like it's probably a driver issue of some kind. Enabling RAID for your SATA controller makes the non-RAID AHCI driver not work properly. I'm just guessing here...

If you're seeing BSOD during Windows load, then you certainly aren't limited to going and buying a RAID card. A Windows repair, or full reinstall, should be your first course of action before spending money.

I don't know what your motherboard is but after installing Win7 on one SSD using ACHI, I switched the bios to RAID and installed a 2*60 SSD RAID0 employing Intel's RST feature. The original SSD with the OS now shows up as a "non-RAID" drive in the bios.

As LokutusofBorg suggests, check your drivers. If the board has an Intel chipset make sure your running the latest Intel RST drivers.

I have a asrock990fx motherboard so I dont have an intel chipset. Ive tried installing windows onto my ssd in raid setting but the install screen would eventually bsod aswell. Only ide and achi lets me install windows.

I'm not an AMD expert but it does look like that chipset should support RAID.

I've always installed Win7 using the ACHI option, never tried to do it under RAID but not surprising if Win7 might not allow it.

I suggest you:
1) Connect only the SSD (no hard drives) and install Win7 using the ACHI mode.
2) Make sure you have the latest AMD drivers for your chipset installed, then
3) reboot, go into the bios, and see if you can now switch from ACHI to RAID.
4) If that works then reboot
5) if no BSOD, connect the HDDs (don't know if you can hot swap them or not) so a shutdown might be needed to connect, and then
6) create the RAID array.
