Ok I'm trying to make my Athlon system Quiet. It is in a Antec KS188 full tower.
the specs can be found on my "Rigs" page in my sig.

Right now I have a huge Global Win heatsink/fan its not the VOS32 but its like one step below it. It does block one dimm slot too. My problem with this fan is its so freakin loud. I can hear it over everything else in my case. I'm only running a Classic Athlon at 800mhz and its not overclocked so I know I can get by with much less cooling.

I also have 3 80mm case fans (1 intake, and 2 out). when I dont run the fans my case/motherboard temp goes up about 3 degrees using Motherboard Monitor. I do not have a temp monitor on my CPU so I do not know how hot/cool it is currently running.

My question is what is a good QUIET heatsink/fan to use on my non overclocked Athlon 800mhz. I was thinking about a Golden Orb at one time but Im not sure how Quiet they are. I have seen some sites that sell quiet fans but they are so expensive in my opinion. Also would it hurt much to leave the 3 case fans turned off to reduce noise, and just use the CPU and Powersupply fan in my full tower?

I want my computer to be quiet so I can leave it on 24/7 and it not disturb me when I sleep. (Yes it does bother me sometimes )

If you're looking to quiet those case fans of yours, you can always check out
www.pcpowercooling.com.

They have some silencer fans that aren't too expensive, the last time I checked.

With regards to your HSF, I was thinking the same thing myself cause quite frankly, I'm annoyed that I can hear my computer! What I'm planning to do is buying some heatsink, and then sticking a retail Pentium cooler fan on it (those are nice and quiet), maybe run two or something. My two cents.

Oh and another thing, my system (before O/C) was running fine with just the power supply and the CPU HSF ... so I don't think it should be a problem (depends what you're running in that case of yours).

thanks for the info. I am currently still looking for a heatsink and fan.
I want something that isn't so loud and doesn't block my dimm slot

I actually ran my computer without the case fans the other day. I couldn't tell much difference in the loudness of it. So I'm guessing that most of my problems are coming from those fans on the heatsink.

i swapped out all my generic fans w/ panaflos. the intake's a 120mm alum L1A panaflo (only because they were out of stock of the regular 120mm panaflos), 92mm exhaust, and made sure to swap the PSU fan w/ a 80mm panaflo. the PSU swapped remarkably cutted down on my sound i noticed. ordered a quiet ADDA 60mm fan for my alpha pal6035, that cut down quite a bit from what i had on there before.

Hi,
Isn't the adda 60mm quiet too weak, I put bought one of those from phamcomputer and its raised my temp like 15C, of course I overclock though. Its very quiet but not recommended for overclocking or too keep your cpu very cool.

i wouldn't be surprised, the cfm rating is pretty low but if you're running a highend tbird in the 1ghz range you're not going to be OC'ing very far. i've got a 1.1ghz and can't even get it to run prime overnight on a 12x multipler x100mhz, so a high end fan would be generating more noise then i'd need.
