current specs:

Athlon 3200+
Vid Card: 6800GS
RAM: 2gb

Is it worth upgrading to a new card or is my CPU too slow?

What is my best bet for a vid card?

Thanks.

cpu is kinda slow. You could get a 7800gt/7900gs as the top for that proc and see a boost but im not sure that it would be worth the money.

just get a new system, its not worth it to buy a new vid card for $100 and still not being able to play it at reasonable details/resolution

Buy a whole new computer?? Are you assuming everyone on this forum is rich?

OP, a 7900GS or 8600GTS (in the f/s forum) would be a very nice upgrade to the card you have now. Or an ATI 3850 would be an even better choice for $179 and you can move that card over to a new cpu/motherboard when you're ready in the future.

whats your budget? if you want the best card for the money right now...8800GT is the clear choice. otherwise, a 8600GT/7900GT/7900GS would be a good alternative too. also, an x1950/x3870 is great for the ati camp.

He was specifically asking if should get a new vid card or upgrade the comp... I also say that he should upgrade the whole computer... if he doesn't have the money to make a whole new computer then he should keep his current system without an upgrade... as there is very little to be gained...

Yes a 3850 would be a great buy. UT 2007 is GPU limited not CPU limited. That 3200 is just fine.
Most people here have way to much time/money on their hands.

What they should really be asking is what is your desktop resolution.

If your @ 1024x768 an older 7800GT or 7900GT would be fine. The 7800GT performs about the 8600GT level. I should know I have 4 systems and that the cards I had and passed down. My card is the 3870 and it works well @ 1680x1050.

My daugther has a 3800 X2 and 2 7600GTs in SLI. Works well for her in UT2007. Shes @ 1440x900 on an LCD.

He is merely asking if it's worth upgrading his video card on his system. He isn't saying he wants to buy a new computer.

The ATI 3850 would really be your best choice for the money. It's what i would buy if i didn't already have a 8800GTS card.

He is specifically asking if his cpu is too slow... I am specifically answering that it IS too slow and he should upgrade the whole system... (since new CPU would require new mobo and new ram aswell... thats a full upgrade)

I take what I said back. IF your budget is $200, get the MSI 8800gt from Dell. Having your processor holding you back is not a big deal. You can always get a new one in the future. Better than upgrading your processor and then your videocard again when the time comes.

I'll be selling my 2 BFG GeForce 7950GTs soon for $200 for both. I'm just waiting for my 2 BFG GeForce 8800GTs to come in.
