Have a compaq 910 w 1500+, 512 ddr,etc.... Want to upgrade to a 2000+Mobile.... What's involved, and will there be too much heat ?? What about swapping out to a faster 5200rpm drive ?? Any input/advice is appreciated !! Thanks !
I have the Compaq 900z with a 2000+ T-Bred mobile in it and I think our's use the same ATI Radeon IGP/ALI M1535+ chipset so you can drop one in your's if you want to and it's almost a certainty that the same heatsink and Sunon fan is used regardless of CPU so no worries with heat since I've run SETI 24/7 for 5 weeks straight on mine and no lock-ups or instabilty of any kind. though it will get toasty on the bottom where the rubber ram cover is at so I use a aluminum notebook cooler with 2 60mm fans when on AC power to keep the bottom cool. Be sure to use Artic Silver or another quality compound when installing the new CPU. The extra speed is nice if you're doing things that will take advantage of it otherwise it's just overkill. The 5400rpm drive is definitely the better investment if it's one or the other because the performance is a noticable improvement vs the 4200rpm drive.
