I didn't create the second thread, I just wanted to post my experiences there too so that people coming in and looking for a "fix" would be aware that there could be large performance penalties associated with changing that setting... That's all.

I'm glad some people can see the difference between a 5 year old game most of us haven't heard of, and perhaps the most commonly benchmarked, arguably best looking, and impressive technological showcase (that has a new patch enabling AA & HDR just around the corner afaik) that is Farcry

Exactly. And its not just Farcry. Its the same with WOW and UT2004. Fanboys will try to resort to red herrings to minimize the issue.

Some people (like me) dont have other cards to compare, I thought it wasnt a bug until this was brought up .. FarCry is an excellent game but not my favorite. So while it doesnt matter much to me (& you), it might to others.

I don't have so much spare time and money to buy and compare different cards. Its interesting that you go back and forth between ATI/Nvidia but haven't even noticed it. There are none too blind as those to refuse to see I guess.

if it's so noticeable, why is it that the attention a few ppl have given this on these forums is the only place it's an issue?

even on ubisoft's far cry tech forum there's only a vague reference to it... so coming up on 2yrs this game has been released and it's so noticeable it's only being discussed now, and basically only on the at forums?

seems to me those that have either never noticed it or are indifferent to it is the vast majority.

Is it so wrong the we discuss this shadow issue and try to figure out how to remedy it. Rollo, you managed to keep out of this thread for so long and all of a sudden you grace us with your presence and opinion. I think you should stick to your bourbon and making your parody threads, that way if I want to read drunken ramblings i can go read them in their appropriate spot.

Actually I beat the game originally on my x800 pro, and havent played it too much since. I recently got into it again when I read dug's thread. Im not saying the shadows destroy the game for me, but merely gives me something to do and try to figure out since my recent motorcycle accident that has put me out of work for the last 3 weeks with a broken back and ribs.

Try dirver Forceware 79.11. It's the last in the 75 generation drivers and its reputed to fix the IQ problems

Rollo just to curb any of your potential thoughts, I am/was the proud owner of a 9800 pro, x800 pro, 6600 GT, 6800 GT, And now a current 7800GTX that I just installed last night! I will say that I am very happy with the Gtx especially since it helps heat my house at a whopping 82c. As you can see, I invest a lot of $$ into enjoying my games, and will buy whatever card I feel will help me enjoy my games to the fullest. I was happy with the 6800 until my recent purchase of a 2005fpw, which then warranted the 7800 purchase. With all that being said, let me b!tch about the Far Cry shadows! I think I deserve the right to. Go ahead, start your own thread about Sacrifice and how you want to buy an x1800. If you are gonna actually buy an X1800 you reserve the right to complain about any issues you have with the card.

Anyone still have BF1942 installed, and using an ATI card? I've noticed blocky shadows in there, I just attributed it with poor shadow work on DICE's part. Can anyone take a screenshot of that, particularly in vanilla BF or DC so I can compare? I'm running a 6800GT.
