lol, you guys really have no clue about Iraq. You don't just go to Iraq and rent a house off post. Contractors live on post, mostly work on post, and eat on post. Yes, there are some exceptions, but not for computer programers. Maybe for teh mercanary type.

The Careerbuilder link says "Job Type: 3 month contract (could go shorter)" and doesn't specifically mention Ajax.

Does AJAX pages for the iPhone count?

I'd do it, there isn't much risk at all if you're just staying in a major base. Just don't expect to go out on the town and come back in one piece.

Dude, that's what I meant. It would probably be covered already. I guess "even if" wasn't very strong wording...I meant that to be a LONG shot.

Blah, another myth. Coming back in one piece is the ordinary. If everyone died on every mission, there would be nobody left.

I'd do it - did AJAX and other web app development before, liked it quite a bit and staying on a base would be much more boring than dangerous.

Of course, they probably want to you pass drug tests to get security clearance

Sounds about right, I've been over there twice now and the contractors are making a killing. If I get out of the military when my enlistment's up you can bet your a$$ I'm gonna do whatever I can to get a job over there. You make all that money and dont spend it on anything, your lodging, food, clothing, medical, anything you "need" to survive is provide so you could bank all that 240k. Its not as bad as you see in the news since your not going out on patrols or guarding the gate, you just gotta worry about rockets and mortars, thats all

I would do it. I've always wanted to be "part" of the military and this is pretty close to it.

And some (ignorant) people out there say that there's no profit in war.

Dying isn't the only horrible fate you could suffer. Missing limbs, devastating disabilities, mental health issues, PTSD...

...things that stay with you long after your $200,000 is spent and gone.

You'll be making pretty good disability money for not doing any work.

Well, nobody in my company of 150+ even has a purple heart (from this tour) yet. Soooo yeah.

I'd suffer much more mentally if I wasn't wearing this uniform. I'd hate myself.

One neighbor signed up for some sweet deal in Iraq and he was killed in a helicopter crash another was shot by a sniper riding in a truck. The money is tempting but things can go very wrong.

Why?

I've mentioned it before. I couldn't stand watching hundreds of thousands of men my age coming over here and to Afghanistan and me sitting in the states doing nothing.

Even now after serving a tour in both countries I'm not satisfied, and will probably continue my military career as an officer after finishing college.

And yes, I look down on able bodied men not willing to raise their hand.

if you get to work in the green zone, why not
but why they need AJAX devs in Iraq? why can't you work remotely?

Man I'd do that no problem. I work with Ajax/Java/Sql all the time. It's perfect for me. Except... I dont got that DOD secret clearance.

Yeah but, unless the Iraqis launch a Tet offensive on your base it's not like you're going to experience much of anything traumatic

Hey what if you had to be a Geek Squad type worker in Baghdad, driving around the city in your dorky little car attracting all kinds of attention...
