I got my beta pad in the mail today. I haven't used it much, but my initial impressions are WOW! It makes my Ratpadz feel like a piece of asphalt.

I'd like to take the C4 and use it at work. I'd like to attach it to something...what it is recommended? I've heard of people attaching the pads to 8.5x11 clipboards that provide a ridid backing for it.

What was the shipping method used? I don't know whether to watch my PO Box or my front porch

It shipped USPS 1st class mail in a small (12" or so) tube.

The clipboard would work. You will get an indent, though, from the clip. You can lay it right down on the desk and it'll grip.

Got mine today. This thing is very nice. When can I order a 16"x16" one? I've only used it for a couple minutes but so far I like it.

I do have a question though. It says not to bend it b/c of potentioal creases. I really want something like this to take to LANs with me but my Shuttle SFF bag is too small for the size mousepad I want. I could get a 16"x16" one, and cut it down to the width of the bag. Then I was thinking of putting the C4 surface on the bottom of the shuttle bag, then on the edge where the surface would bend putting a normal rubber mouse pad down so to give a larger radius for the c4 surface to lay against when I put the Shuttle case on top of it to prevent creasing.

My other idea was to actually cut the surface in half so it can lay flat as two sheets in the bag. It absolutely does not move once placed on a surface so I could lay the two pieces next to each other on a table. I am wondering if the mouse will catch the edge of the two pieces where they meet or if there will be any other negative aspects to this plan?

If you have any other ideas please post.

Thanks.

P.S. The surface does seem a little static freindly, I can already see cat hair adhereing to the surface. Is there a way to fix the static cling issue?

Sher:
Here's some ideas: Instead of trying to put C4 inside the SFF bag, can you use the cardboard tube we shipped you, put some Velcro straps on it and create a C4 "quiver" with a shoulder strap? We are toying with an idea like this that would be a custom case like a Samur might sheath his sword or a Pool Pro Player might carry his lucky stick. Also, the BT size 8.5 x 10 will fit nicely in a Legal Envelope.

Do you have photo of Shuttle SFF bag so I can see what's what?

Sher: 16x16 are not commercially available. The Beta Test is to help us decide if we should release it for sale. I could probably let you buy one with the understanding that Test results are not in yet. Email me @sobrien42@earthlink.com

Sher: I am trying edge to edge as we speak...the mouse catches on the edge about 40% of the time. Then I tried a piece that looked flatter. No catching. I would recommend anchoring the perimeter corners, esp if there's any tendency to curl. Even scotch tape will hold it down; Teflon mouse Tape will hold it down...the discs we gave you may also work.

Sher: OK, I just tried spraying a thin layer of "Static Guard" (made by Alberto Culvert) on C4-NGen. Doesn't seem to affect surface. So far, no lint/dust or hairs

After thinking on it for a couple hours, I think I've found a good solution for me carrying the surface to LANs in my SFF Shuttle bag.

First of all let me Show you what the SFF case looks like. Then Here is the bag.

Anyway, I found out through trial and error, that this thing "sticks" to most surfaces, Simply throw it at the side of your case and it sticks! I've tried it on 3 normal painted steel cases and it sticks beautifully. How much better can you get! On my SFF though, the case is smaller than I want the C4-NGen surface to be. On my case the top edge is rounded enough that I can place the surface on top of the case and fold it over the side. The surface doesn't like being bent at that severe of a radius, but it does not crease nor remember the fold. However, the case is brushed alunimum and the C4-NGen surface doesn't stick to that as readily as smoother surfaces. Oh well, it's the best I've thought of so far.

I received mine today as well. So far my impessions have been great. Extremely responsive and smooth gliding using an intellimouse optical (without discs). I love how it sticks to the surface and can be easily removed and replaced. The only complaint I have so far is that I have a cat and I have noticed hair sticking to the surface (nothing atypical for my other mousepads). Anyhow I would recommend the static guard. The size is nice as well. Plenty of moving room. Where I have never had a pad this big it makes me greedy and want a larger size now. Especially after seeing how easy it would be to cut into custom shapes and sizes. Beta Tester #31

I got mine today as well. So far I really like it. Let me know as soon as they are for sale and I'll get another one for my wifes computer. I used it for an hour or so before putting the disks on. I like it TONS better with the feet. It glides a bit better with the feet, but the real advantage is that the mouse moves silently with them on. Before I added the feet my mouse (intelli mouse explorer 3.0) made a slight scratching noise while moving. With the disks the sound disappeared.

The lifespan/durability the one issue that came to mind when I opened the tube. The mouse pad looks great and should be fine if I never move it, but it seems like it'll have to give a little extra attention when I pack up my machine.

Hi. Now I see what you're talking about. Tx for photos. What's the size of the top of the SFF? The best thing to do is to cut it down to size. We gave you the 8.5" x 10" so you could have the feel of a "Landing Strip" and could mouse horizontally or vertically. I would not recommend you bend at a right angle. It will eventually weaken the C4-NGen. However, if the weak end is placed in a non-critical position, I guess that wouldn't matter so much.

Here's another idea--Looking at your carrying case: What if you hooked two velcro hitch-type loops to the handle and let the C4-NGen dangle alongside the side snap--kind of like a rolled up drawing? Canvas flat sheet with two velcro straps (like a rolled up sleeping bag) would probably work well. Roll with the black grip side on the inside to minimize getting it dirty. As you said--it grips to everything and everything grips to it!

I got mine in the mail today.

Initial impressions: Great surface with and without the feet. Though I do like the feet much better. Stuck right to my desk without a problem. I would definitely prefer something the size of my X-Trac Hammer (11x17) for gaming purposes, so as soon as they are avaliable I will be buying one. This thing rocks so far!

just got it, haven't tested much yet. but the backing is superior to originals, since its simply tacky and not a sticker. the surface does seem less slick so far, will have to game to see how that works out.

Sherry, PLEASE send me one of these pads, PLEASE! I am currently using the Ratpadz GS with the Logitech Mx510, and I got some Teflon tape for the feet. I desperately want to order one of the C4 pads, but with the "Son of C4" on the horizon, I thought I should wait. Of course when you released it commercially I'd have to order the larger size, but until it is available it would be great if I could try one of these! I would provide as much feedback as you could handle, lol. So, if it's at all possible, please, please please send me a trial version

I am being inundated with additional requests for joining the Beta Test for C4-NGen. Thanks for all the enthusiastic interest. We have run out of open Beta Tester Slots. We're already 15 over the budget we set of 30 Testers.

Thanks again for the interest. The sign-up is officially closed.

I got mine on friday...when I opened up the tube I was like...where's the mouse pad? heh I didn't expect it to be so slim...and slim's a good thing...I used to use my good old desk and the desk worked perfectly I tought...till I tried the pad and realized how much easier it is to move the mouse...played a few games with it...in fast paced games it was easier to turn around quicker without my mouse loosing the tracking...in slower paced games like Raven Shield it seemed easier to aim and get in more percise shots...plus while using unrealed (ut2k4's level editor) it was noticeably easier to align things...so far I love it...haven't tried the teflon feet yet...I suppose I should tonight or something

Beta tester #33

My current mouse, Logitech Cordless Mouseman Optical, does not play nicely with the pad. The cursor simply disappears or locks up once the mouse is placed on the pad.

What's the Mouse Model # (on the bottom)? We have one mouse, CE0682 Logitech Optical that doesn't like the this mousepad when my husband uses it. When I just, it, no problems. We're still mystified.

We fiddled with the sensitivity and checked the batteries. If it goes to "sleep", you tap it lightly and all is well.

Keep me posted.

Well, so far my impressions are great. I like it better than the original, although it's backing grip material could be just slightly thicker, because I notice it tends to turn up in one of the corners just a little. However this is barely noticeable. I like using it better than my previous C4 that was stuck to an everglide pad. So far with my Razer boomslang I prefer it without feet. The feet wont fit the boomslang, but thats ok I have some teflon tape that I can use on it to try.

Ill post more later.
