Video camera shouldn't have worked at the begining when the first tripod emrged.

Not bad movie, but the bit under the house with the weird guy dragged. Plus being powered by humans was cheesy. And the way everything was covered in blood. Bit contrived, but not bad.

Cruise is an OK actor, but is an A* wanker for being suckered into scientology.

I just watched this movie tonight, and I wanted to strangle both kids. The girl because she was so dysfunctional and annoying, and the guy because he was such a fvcking dumbass.

The tripod things were almost a direct ripoff from The Matrix.

Overall, I give it about a 4/10.

ending was rushed, did I see a fight with alien spacecraft, airborne... with stealth bombers and f-22's?

retarded directors, they should have copied Independence Day's air battle, but much more dynamic, instead we follow a family around trying to escape from the enemy, a family, one family, that's it, and all the action is cencored.

someone needs to seriously remake this movie and put some platoon action into this, from troops to macro artillery.

Spielberg tends to sway towards emotion rather than guns-out action when given the choice... I think we have enough movies out there with muscle-laden brutes shooting the crap out of aliens. Having an enclosed experience is fairly novel, although it was also seen in 'Signs' as someone above mentioned.

Tripods in sci-fi are almost as common as flying saucers. If it is a ripoff it wouldn't be from the Matrix.

Is that what took down their shields? Or that the aliens were infected with bacteria/germs and couldn't control the tripods after they started becoming sick? They never explained that part in detail.

What I don't understand is how one of those things could be buried underneath the street in a city and nobody ever came across it. After all the years of building subways and laying foundations etc...

I mean the premise was they were there for thousands of years right? And the aliens came down in capsules to pilot them.

And what was the point of that warhorn anyway?
