How is the war of the worlds movie?

In the previews it showed army fights, missles and lots of action. Is there a lot of this in the movie with the army fighting the beings or does it get slow sometimes

I've heard from two people I trust that its VERY good. I wasn't going to go see it, but after talking to them I think I will.

The one review I read (its a guy who has similar tastes in movies as me, so I trust him) said that it was good as well.

thumbs down because while I give them credit for not following the typical hero movie, I found it irritating and not entertaining. The plot was slow moving. Also while it is a movie and sci fi somethings just need a little better explanation or believability.

I liked it a lot. Amazing special effects and Speilberg is at the top of his game as far as manipulating your emotions. Tom Cruise is tolerable. Don't get me wrong-this is no Citizen Kane, more like Independence Day, but it's a fun movie to see in the theaters.


I wouldn't take any little kids though. I took my sixth grade nephew and it was a bit too much for him.

Saw it yesterday. I agree with Thump said on the movie. Cruise is tolerable and Dakota was annoying at first, but its good.

I would have liked it more if i could have put a stun gun to the kids in the audience talking and running around the entire movie and then crying towards the end.

never read the book. i liked the movie overall, i would normally recommend it for a rental except you really should see it in surround sound.

the ending seemed a bit stupid to me. im sure when it was written it was a good idea, and it has figurative meaning, but in this day, it just seems silly (would say more but dont want to give too much away).

It gets slow, there's not alot of army fights. It's more of a survival type movie similar to Jurassic Park. I liked it.

good action, good special FX. VERY sappy ending (not the virus part, that is OK).

There is a VERY dumb plot point in the movie (they buried the tripods?!?!).

3/5 stars because of the sappy ending and dumb plot point.

Better than I thought. Steven Spielberg still knows how to make sci-fi. Wondered why Tom Cruise is in this? How did that happen? Could it be times are hard even for even block buster actors? They ask for so much in pay, that few movies can afford them. Its strange why Cruise did this. But it ended up being pretty good despite Cruise.
What makes this movie good, regardless of the cast, is the age old idea some force, not of this earth, can push us to extinction. Mankind being so helpless is interesting. And Steven Spielberg does a good job with it.
What I wondered, is if we keep using anti bacterial hand soap, anti bacterial kitchen & bath cleaner, will we be sorry someday in the future. I mean, no little microbes to kill the space aliens, just because we all were told we needed to use everything anti bacterial to clean with. Makes you think!

The ending was rushed. This movie could have been 4 hours + if they went into more detail. That would have owned.

The CG was amazing. Great military action. The force fields were BS though.

I went in expecting an action movie, but it wasn't what I expected. I actually did enjoy the movie a lot, and the whole time, it kept me in the movie, feeling the same way as the characters did. I hope I didn't give away much.
