how many people i wonder beleive that the US are going to win this war on terror? .Here in Ireland the british lost the war on terror and evetually had to negotiate a settlement with the ira.how long can america hold out against determined terrorists and if god forbid there is another atrocity of some sort what direction will the war on terror take thereafter.
i don't think the homeland can be secured 100% and maybe there are secret negotiations going on with al qaeda to see what the hell they want

As long as our leadership maintains a backbone, we will win. Influences such as anti-war ppl and opinions of other countries can make our leadership back down and we will have another Vietnam on our hands.

Yes, we have more people, guns, bombs, and resources.

Didn't you learn anything playing Starcraft?

Plus we have God on our side.

Freedom and absolute security are mutually exclusive.

What kind of negotiated peace can we have with someone like bin Laden? They are the type of people who blow up more people to prevent a negotiated peace in Israel. Unfortunately, I don't think there can be a negotiated peace with them.

Winning is not a problem , doing so in a way that does not appear to be genocidal poses certain problems.Oh, and we did not lose Vietnam.

We got rid of the terrorists in Afghanistan, and now we got rid of them in Iraq. We are winning, and already have.

Well said. The US has simply become a target for terror, like Israel,England, and others before it. The only difference is that the enemy in our case is obviously not content to simply blow up a car bomb in front of a pizza parlor.

I think we need an organization similar to the movie Swordfish. I want a black ops organization that will attack anyone who has done harm or has been perceived as doing harm on the US. They should attack swiftly and with such fury that nobody would dare attack the US or it's citizens for fear of what will happen to them and their organization. And of course the US would have no knowledge of this group nor would the US fund it....on the books anyway.

Oversimplified.

There are pockets of these jackoffs all over the world. Some are still in Afghanistan. Some are in Iraq.

We have just disrupted the hell out of their operations.

So you are Pro War? I supported going into Afghanistan because that's where the Terrorists who masterminded the attack against us were. I also supported attacking Iraq because I believed the lies our Administration told us. That said I don't consider myself Pro War, more Anti War but willing to fight if pushed. We need to continue to fight Terrorism but not for the sake of establishing an American Empire, just to make sure that we and our Allies are safe. I'm definately not for liberating all those who are under the thumb of a dictator (besides military and financial support), I think we should leave that for them to do themselves, that way they would appreciate the sacrifices they made to have freedom.

We'll never win a "war on terror."
We won a "war on Afghanistan/Taliban."
We have almost won a "war on Saddam/Iraq."

But there will always be terrorists. There will always be whackos that hate others for whatever reason. There will always be nutcases with explosive belts blowing themselves up in the streets.

It's kinda like a war on drugs in a lot of ways...

But we can minimize the occurrence of said emotion. Think of it like the war of drugs, or the fight against cancer.

Yeah, the US will win the war on terror, just like they're going to win the war on drugs.

The original intent was to stop the spread of communism. There we failed. ??? However, at the time, this was equated to the USSR & China.
The line was drawn at Korea and still stands. The USSR no longer exists in the original Stalin style form.

S Vietnam does not exist, however, Vietnam & Cambodia are no longer acting like/are Soviet puppets.
