DAoC is the only reason I have any hope that it won't bomb. Not much hope, but the rig apparently will play it so I am waiting to see with mediocre interest.

Will Warhammer require characters to do a lot of raiding like WoW for the best gear? Or is the gear obtainable without having to be part of an organized guild?

The best gear available atm is actually from PVP....But it sounds like the easiest good gear to get early on is from the public quests, which you dont even have to join a group for...you just go into an area, and you're automatically doing the same quest as everyone else...the more you contribute(damage, healing, buffing etc), the better gear you get.

It sounds like its pretty balanced as far as getting good gear from PVE or PVP...and the best thing is, you can choose which you want to do based on your play style....or you can mix and match.

Oh and at the lvl cap(lvl 40), the highest raid dungeon ATM only requires a group of 6! Thank god for that, no more friggin 40 man raids....

A big announcement for War is suppose to come out in next week or 2. It is Not open beta or NDA lifting..something else.

Early release? that would be cool and a first for a MMO

Well according to gamestop, the release was pushed up to Sept 18ish IIRC...up from the 23rd...

So maybe thats it?

What's the release date on this? Gamestop shows 09/18/08. Hmm...only 1 month left and it's still in NDA. Hard to believe this game will be released in one month and we're still not in Open beta.

I hope this isn't another SWG or Vanguard ./...

I just checked out the youtube vids and it doesn't look as advanced as hyped. It looks like a Nintendo game (not that WoW doesn't) but the refinement and all that - I don't see it. Bulky / boxy characters running around all stiff... am I looking at the wrong vids?

That has some actual rvr play and other stuff. Its in HD instead of the crappy youtube quality.

5 year EQ vet, 2 year DAoC vet, 3 year WoW vet, 3 month AoC vet.

You are going to be horribly disappointed. Even AoC seems polished in comparison to the current product.

Graphics engine needs TONS of work before they can even consider a release. Doesn't even have options, just 3 levels of settings and even the highest one doesn't compare to WoW's dated graphics and it's lucky to run 15fps when I can run AoC completely maxed out and get stable 60fps.

Something is wrong with your system. I run it maxed at 1920x1080 with 4xAA forced through the nvidia console and it runs perfectly fine. The graphics are far better than WoW, the screen-shots don't really do it justice as a lot of it comes from lighting. I played AoC and canceled it. WAR in its current form is far more polished than AOC.

VashHT, can you send me a screenshot or link to SS of it running on your system? I don't see many actual in game screenshot from players.

That's because you're not supposed to show screenshots from the closed beta, as it's under the NDA.

Possibly the fact that I'm running it SLI. I disabled one of the 9800GTX's and it appears to be running far better now.

Still, SLI being modern technology this isn't something I should be forced to deal with.

War is basically WoW with less character abilities, and they already nixed a few classes to ramp up production.

If EA knew this then Bullfrog and Westwood would still be around.

Westwoods own downfall was caused by themselves, not EA. EA came around after Westwood blew to much money to projects that werent going to make a return.

EA bout VIE/Westwood long into the development of C&C2, Renegade, Earth and Beyond, and all the other dreck Westwood tried to shovle out. Also Westwood was stupid, incredibly stupid for sticking with voxel's back then. Westwood made a comedy of errors and thats what led to EA buying VIE/Westwood.

EA has given new life to the Westwood franchises that Westwood f'ed up. EA LA, which is basically half of Westwoods former staff, and a bunch of new people + some other dev studios EA bought out are quite competent. C&C3 and RA 3 are great. Generals is great. And Tiberium looks to be what Renegade should have been.

They've already said, Open Beta will commence 1 month from release date. If the game does release in mid Sept like EA listed, an announcement about open beta should come soon.

Open beta is all about stress testing, most companies dont need more than a month of stress testing. Really the commencment of open beta is pretty much in line with the game going gold.

I know the UI mod is built in to the game that allows you to move anything on the screen, change its size etc...so the UI is fully customizable. Not sure as far as additional things, but the buttons etc are all customizable.
