In a multi-engine bomber there's not much you can do other than climb and hope for really stupid enemies.

If there is a substantial amount of clouds hide in them. I've gone entire games unmolested by doing this. Climbing as high as you can when the skies are completely clear is a complete waste of time and energy as you are a painfully obvious target. I've found diving down and using the extra speed as protection to be a better tactic in such situations.

Clouds do work well unless you want to hit targets that aren't highlighted, like some pillboxes. Diving is suicide, it basically guarantees you get one pass but after that you don't have a chance.

Anymore I mostly fly br 3.7 planes and I've noticed a solid half of the multi engine hombers I see are either b25s or b17s, with a few wellingtons and 111s thrown in. Bombers can use a few strategies to stay in the game, but in the end what they really need is protection and right now American bombers are the only ones with protection worth half a damn. I think things would be very different if each bomber that spawned came with two AI planes to support it.

so tanks are a mixed bag, i have some controls binding issues and some of the maps are just absurd in the bleed rate of tickets. and for now no mixed plane tank gameplay, not even with biplanes.

cheap enough to grind though, xp and crew skills seem to fly by.

Nothing worse than bomber spawn directly into fire. DIVE DIVE! Wellington is often a one way bombing run for me.

Occasionally I can get a fighter to come at me head on in B25. They usually lose.

Dang it! I was really looking forward to this as a feature.

found it, mixed play is available in realistic and sim modes but not arcade.

i dont have enough tanks or AA vehicles to risk going RB, so it will be a while before i get to bomb any tank players.

Great news, everyone! Poor balance and/or map design was causing players to leave matches, so Gaijin has decided to penalize people for leaving matches.

http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/134804-crew-lock-thread-merged/?p=2551098

The thread starts to get good at the end of page 6 where that post is.

On top of that it's bugged and punishing players who haven't left matches at all. Trying to play again for the first real time in about a year. Started a game as Japan and all my planes are locked for 7 minutes. I haven't left a game in the last year. It's bullshit.

edit: At least two other players were reporting the same issue in that game. I'm also not a huge fan of how they've made planes a lot weaker (in their ability to take damage) in the last year.

edit 2: My crew got to -1m and I still couldn't spawn a plane. I'm afraid to leave because then my next game might get fucked the same way or worse.

I first discovered the change today when I got shot down and couldn't respawn. The timer ran down to zero and kept going, all the way to negative six and a half minutes when the match finally ended.

This game/company would make an excellent case study on executive meddling, but for now the gameplay is still good enough (in places) that I check in every so often. They're not getting any more money out of me though, and every time I get locked out I'm going to play a match in WoT, just to stick it to the man.

My understanding is that this shouldn't happen unless you've left games early. Typically meaning before a particular point in time or before you lost all your planes. I've never done either but still had all my planes for a specific country locked out for 7 minutes at the start of a match.

I think it's a shitty design decision combined with a bug that's applying the penalty to those who haven't earned it.

That's my understanding as well, on both accounts.

Even if they fix the bugs they're going to have a lot of unhappy people, considering how often people get spawnkilled, etc.

It looks like that thread is still going strong, but if history is any indication they'll eventually reverse their decision (partially) and then subtly double down when the next patch comes.

I still like the game. But some of the decisions these guys make are just annoying. I was actually getting ready to plop some more money down to push through to the Sabres on the American side. Then they go ahead and put that abomination the F82 in the way and another jet I couldnt care about. So I will keep my money and keep flying the 109-E3 for free.

until they actually remove the beta tag from the game, do not spend any money as the game you pay for now may not exist or may be something entirely different in a year, and different again in 2 years.

the quit lockout is just the latest shot in the foot in mouth disease for gaijin. they keep making radical changes without officially pre-announcing/game testing/dev server testing to see if it has the desired effect.

the part that offends most of the forum posters is that gaijin throws these ham-handed "fixes" at the symptoms rather than the disease.

bad matchmaking -> ragequits/mapquits -> skewed team balance -> complaints.

they recognize that people are complaining but decide to target the quitting part rather than the matchmaking.

1.39 fixed a few things, and i was ready to jump back in full time, but now im ready to stay quits.

I dont care about the beta tag. Provided the money I put into the game generates entertainment that is all I want. And even if they remove the beta tag they can and will change the game in the future.

But I am not about to plop down money to research a plane 2 more planes I have zero interest in flying just to get to the sabres.

A couple months ago I spent five bucks then spent 100 eagles on each of my crews. That was a good use of five bucks, even after all this other BS they've thrown at us. I don't think the existing product justifies more than about ten bucks though.

I set this up last night to take a look, and ran through some of the tutorials. It's a really good looking game. Probably the best ground view I've ever seen in a flight sim, in terms of scaling smoothly from high to low altitude. The controls are really smooth, although the flight model seems fairly arcadish.

The game recognized my Extreme 3D Pro just fine, and assigned functions to all the buttons. However I am stuck trying to get through one of the advanced tutorials where you need to look around from the cockpit in order to progress. The control assignments say the 5 and 6 axes are assigned to view control (the top hat), but it also says these are assigned to gunner view control. When I used them in the bomber tutorial in the gunner position they worked, but I have not been able to make it work in the cockpit for looking around. Anyone run into this?

Make sure whatever you are doing to set the level to realistic battle if you want a more realistic flight model. Arcade flight models are tuned up really high and not close to feeling realistic.

I dont use a joystick so I didnt run into that, but I did still spend the first few days mapping and remapping controls. In your case it may be that it's confused about being mapped to two different view modes, try mapping one or the other to your num pad and see if that works.

These games are really pretty bad. World of Tanks, War Thunder etc. The concepts are good but execution is poor.

The no respawning thing is one of the bigger faults. War Thunder arcade sort of gets around this problem. But overall the game play is just boring. I guess if youre a kid and havent been gaming for years TDM lobby shooter stuff is still fun. But after doing it for more than a decade its just not fun anymore. I need more complexity and lobby shooters are anything but.
