okay guys. i went to bestbuy today, had the game in my hand, really thought about the purchase, and decided not to get this game. reason? because although a lot of people are giving this game great praise, there are also a big group of people that does not like this game due to bugs, graphics, gameplay, etc. i really feel that people are into this game because its a little different than WOW, and its a new game infatuation. in the long run, interest in this game will not last. I am sure in the future patches to WoW, new features will be released that will be similar, or even out do the WAR RvR/PvP system. besides, WOTLK will be coming out soon, ill wait till that comes out first and see how that compare with WAR in the fun to play/hold interest/worth spending time on category.

A couple of quick questions from playing a few hours on another server:

Bank...where is it and is it like WoW in that you can buy extra space etc?

Bags...tell me you can buy bigger/more of them? Since there's no 'tailoring' in game...?

I played around w/ both Cultivation and Apothecary...Cultivation takes a LONG time (1 min) per plant, but otherwise, I dig it. And as far as Apothecary goes...anyone have any good ingredient list for starting out? I'd really like others ideas on the various crafting/gathering skills, whether it be those two or others. TIA.

There are other ???'s I have, but we'll start there. Anyone else have some, so maybe we can make a mini-FAQ for us WAAAGH! players.

Who else thinks the game seems a little barren...

I am playing on a fairly busy server (medium all day, high at night) and there`s just no one around. No one talks on General... no one doing the PQ`s... it`s very lonely.

a wise choice imo

I was totally for this game, but now that I've been playing a bit, I see its far from complete.

There's a ton of bugs, especially game breaking exploits (just found 2 more myself tonight) and I imagine me and friends will be finding more.

Bug free for me more or less, some minor ones like NPC quest givers missing their quest symbol above their heads when you go back after completion, minor glitches on the NPC horses in RvR empire area.

ALL my quests have been fine so far over 200 done.

As to WoW lol that game is well overated played it for 6 months and just found it boring,WAR is an improvement on WoW for sure.

There is ONLY one way to rate a game and thats is to try it for yourself, both negative and positive reasons won't tell you how good the game is unless YOU actually play it.

Bank...where is it and is it like WoW in that you can buy extra space etc?

I found a bank while exploring they are not hard to find, try large cites (mine was in Empire region when I took a flight at the docks),can't remember name of the city.

As previously mentioned.

I have had no problems so far.

Besides the occasional alt+tab problem.

I do think it is wise to wait a month or two after launch to pick up a new MMO (but like always I'm stupid).

To address the barren issue..The zones are a bit smaller and therefore typically less people in a channel.

There is no unified trade channel.

Although admittedly I see few people on chat channel.

I think though that people mainly chat within their guild and that the game doesn't attract 10 year olds that would typically be spamming the chat

Been playing for over a week now and I'm still really enjoying it. I haven't really experienced any of the bugs some of you are talking about, but it's only a week into release so I don't think it's reasonable to expect the game to be perfect. So far, this seems like a really good, stable launch. Even taking into account the bugs, this game has the most important thing going for it, great game play. The bugs can and will be fixed. From just about the very beginning of the game you are able to do TONS of stuff. PQs, RvR, and Scenarios. This is the first MMORPG that I've played where I don't feel like I have to rush to the end game to really experience the real game.

Things I hate about doing PQs,healers heal the players especially BW if they get aggro(I had no heals in a warbnand group),I died and missed out on 3rd place loot by 1 sec by time I got back it had gone, players going for items they don't really need on a roll,if its not my class I pass over so its fair for other players.

I left the group told them why, better off solo sometimes when players don't look after their group,I won't tell you how many times I pulled agro away from healers,SW etc and got no heals and died, they want you in the group but won't help you.

You gotta find a good guild to do the PQs with I think. The random groups can be ok if you're lucky and the people actually pay attention but in general, I've learned not to depend much on anyone else. The populations on the servers are getting spread out more as people rank up so you'll often see PQs empty. Again the best thing is to get in a good guild so you can do PQs/Scenarios/world RvR with them.

Keep in mind that you'll see a lot more complaining going on because most people that don't have problems won't be posting on forums saying everything's great. So it remains to be seen just how many people are having these issues. I think WAR has a lot of longevity and a lot of potential going for it. I mean no one has seen the endgame yet, once a significant number of people hit the cap, I think you'll see the full potential of the game.

I guess I've been lucky in the bug department since I've hardly had any and haven't even heard about that randomly losing equipment one. As with any new game and especially an MMO, there will be issues and I think mythic has done a good job with addressing them.

Don't write off WAR because of what you read on the forums, give it a chance and actually try it out. It's not that expensive and if you end up not liking it and canceling big deal, I'm sure you'd spend that money on something equally useless anyway. And if $50 is significant enough to you where it makes a major difference in your life budget then I think you should have more important things to worry about than whether to play WAR or WoW...

All this talk about hold off on the purchase a few months or I'm gonna wait and see, seems pointless to me. Why not try it out now? At least you'll know if you truly like the gameplay or not now rather than waiting months and then realizing that you like it and should have gotten it sooner. Plus you'll appreciate the changes more if you experience the current game. On the other hand, if you don't like the game now, I doubt a few bug fixes will change your mind. Of course if you have major technical issues and can't play the game at all then that's a different story but even then getting the game now and going through the pain of fixing it will ultimately help everyone else that might have that same problem.

Currently there is a bug that makes you randomly lose equipment and CSRs are unable to handle item reimbursement at this time it seems.

Which is just one of many many bugs.

I'm willing to forgive animation bugs, ui bugs, ai/pathing bugs, but losing gear is a pretty big bug, and without a way to reimburse, its no go imo.

back up statements with evidence?

Gear going poof @ WHA

Crashing deletes my weapon @ WHA

There are some a VNBoards but their all in general warhammer discussion, and I'm not wading through that.

My wife has personally lost 2 items and 3 days now we've been waiting in "escalated" appeals without reimbursement.

The more I play the more I regret buying the game ATM.

PS here is a canned reply:

Dear Customer,

As we have discussed in-game, we are regrettably unable to restore items at the moment

We can advise that there are renown gear merchants across all tiers from which you may acquire a replacement weapon. Also the auction house is available in your capital city.

Thank you for your appeal.

Kind regards,
WAR European Customer Support Team

It is affecting US servers too, and to top it off if you play order, good luck getting to a renowned vendor 90% of the time, sure I can get there randomly, but odds of us owning a keep when something randomly disappears? Pretty low at this point.

To also add that renown gear got nerfed and is TOTAL CRAP compared to PVE/Influence rewards.

GG

Not to be a totally callous jerk, but fortunately for the other 70%+ of the gaming population of WAR this will be fixed before they even begin to see these problems. Apparently Tier 3 is when things may become fishy.

Fortunately for me it will be quite some time before I hit those upper levels.

Lets hope they fix itemization though.

My impression is extremely positive. Public quests are an absolute blast when you get a good group together. With the open group system it is easy to go somewhere and join in the fun immediately.

In 4 hours last night I was able to participate in 5 different groups in different areas and also had one turn into a massive warband. I have spent four hours in wow trying to get a group together...

The lack of downtime is really impressing me. Some things that wasted my time in WoW that are not part of Warhammer:
- Players do not have to sit on a gryphon for 10 mins travelling
- running for repairs due to low durability,
- finding a class specific trainer in new zones
- requiring a gathering skill to afford training and repairs
- having to do pve quests to lvl (guess grinding was an option, ugh)

As far as graphic problems go, once I turned off 'grass' in video settings things went smoother. Also, I suggest cranking up that option for memory card memory usage and force af and aa with the nvida control panel.

While I have enjoyed WoW; for me WAR is much more fun. The game needs more polish in places, and there are the mentioned bugs, all that can/will be addressed in time. The fun is there and that is what I care about most.

+1
Game runs much better now i've upgraded my archaeic 939 cpu to a slightly less archaeic 2.7ghz AM2. Really enjoying it. Only have the one character so far, lvl 11 WP on Ulthuan.

addition: imo anyone looking to spend 80hrs a week in the game (like those who've hit 40 already) should expect to find bugs. Like Powernick said, by the time 90% of the population gets there dozens of patches will have been released...

addition 2: having issues with crafting...i chose talisman making and scavenging. Big mistake apparently, since i havent found a single fragment so far, which is a core ingredient for talismans. Found lots of the other 3 ingredient types though. I guess i need to take salvaging or something? Anyone know what gets you fragments?

There will always be WoW Fanboi's and WAR Fanboi's.

I consider myself to be a former WoW fanboi.

I want this WAR to be successfull becasue IMO I feel like blizzard has gotten kind of fat and lazy with their games..not releasing until they have to.

Alot of the gaming industry has been hurting especially in the MMO realm as nobody wants to try to take on Blizzard.

I think WAR will be around for awhile. The content is already fun from the start..the quests are well designed and share blizzards sense of humor (which I loved).

I mean..quests in the greenskin starting area involved shoving half naked passed out drunk dwarves into barrels and tossing them into the river.

I mean comon! How fun is that?

I had the same experience that you had. It was a bit concerning for me because I am a squishy Runepriest on an open RvR server.

However, I solved that problem by joining a guild.

Remember, this game is based upon PvP. PvP'ing alone is not good. Find a good group and stick together. The game become MUCH more fun with a good group.

Troubleshooting problems is the worst bit of this game. Not only do you have to wait 20 seconds to log off (or none of your in-game settings save), you also have to wait through five incredibly loud intro movies to get back into the game.

I have only watched the intro movie once. Hit the "any key" to skip it and jump right into the game.

You are having a large number of problems with the game. Have you tried contacting them about the problems?

Maybe not, since you had trouble finding the "any key." /jk

Well there's also the EA movie, the Mythic movie, the GW movie, and the WAR movie, with the WAR one being the most annoyingly loud. The in game audio controls do not have any effect on the intro movies either, so I had to lower my overall system volume and boost vent inbound to even it out, and it still gets really loud randomly. Skipping the main intro movie is possible, but it really shouldn't come up after the first time you run the game, and a couple of the people I play with don't see it when they launch. One doesn't see it on his PC but it still comes up on his laptop, so it's probably another bug.

The EA "movie" etc. that you are referring to are a 1/2 second each, and the WAR "movie" is a loading screen . . . .

Seriously, it takes no more than five seconds to get to the character selection screen.

I haven't experienced the issues that you have with the volume. When I am using speakers, I rely upon the "volume" knob.

When I am using Ventrilo and a headset, I can generally hear both fine. Haven't found the need to look for a volume adjust, yet. Will look for it tonight when I am online.

Yep, salvaging gives you fragments.

You get fragments from salvaging equipment but you can only salvage green or better equipment. You get to choose what stats you want to have on your fragment. It doesn't always work though so sometimes you'll salvage some gear and it turns into scraps of magic essence instead of fragments. To do any of those trade skills you really need multiple gathering skills. Scavenging is good for the curio part of talisman making so I wouldn't rule it out completely.

But that means I need to trade for fragments from salvagers, and that's not working out, not so far anyway
you're right tho, the other way around i'll need to trade for curios and the other part, not essence...gold something?

I might take salvaging and drop scavenging...ugh!

Well I had little to no interest in this game all the way up to launch. My small guild of friends and I decided what the hell and picked it up.

Holy shit! This game is freaking amazing! I haven't had this much fun since WoW in 2004-2005. There's a bunch of little things that bother me (I could just not know about resolutions on some of them, too) like not being able to link items/abilities in chat, PQ placement rolling system, stealth being useless, combat ability timer issues, etc etc.

Overall this game has exceeded any expectations my guild and I had and we're having a blast. RvR is good fun.

On the Monolith server, btw. Started off as a WH and liked it but leveled too fast for my guild so playing a BW in the meantime, loving it too! Oh noes!

Okay, back at work and time to make some replies.

First, some constructive stuff.

For bags, the way this game works is you get a new 16 slot bag every 10 levels. You start out with 2 bags, or 32 slots. At level 10 you get another 16 slot bag. Another at 20, then so on and so forth. No wasting money on bags. Then again, at lower levels, chances are you are using or selling everything you find, so having a ton of bags is not needed.

As for the bank, the banks and guild vaults are found in the Major City. For Destruction side this is the Inevitable City. Not sure the name for order but they have one too. For Destruction, to reach the main city, go to any flight master. Click on the Chaos versus Empire highlighted line on the right side of the map. This will pull of the map for the Empire vs Chaos zones. In the upper right corner is the flight point for the City. Anyone at any level can go there. I'm assuming the Order side has theirs at the bottom right of the map.

Things that can be found at the main city.
Guild stuff
Mount Vendor
Trainers for everything, career, renown, and trade skill.
Camp merchants.
Trader merchants.
Auction houses.
Banks.
Librarians.

The Librarians sell special items and skills as you unlock tomes. You can view what you can purchase from the librarians by bringing up your Tome. The K button by default. The 5 tab down on the left hand side I think is the rewards tab. From there, you can click on items and unlocks and find out what you are eligible to purchase from a librarian.

As for some of the criticism both ways. I'll throw in my 2 cents to the pot. To the guy complaining about the missing item bug. I've had this happen in other games. In fact, every game to date has had people claim this bug. Many times it is a valid claim, many times it is not. Why? I used to work as a GM for EQ1 wayyy back in the day when they were Verant here out of Austin. Long before SOE bought them out and changed things up. There were logs back then that showed exactly what happened to items.

When a claim for a disappeared item typically came through, 98% of the time it was at the fault of the person. How? Usually it was because they weren't paying attention and did something dumb like accidentally sell something off they didn't want to because they were clicking to fast at a merchant. Or they deleted it by accident thinking the item was something else. Or last but not least. They were trying to find a duping exploit and it back fired on them. That pretty much sums up 95% of the cases of missing items.

Another 3% is because they got "hacked" which means they left their password for someone else to find, or got a keylogger on their system. In which case someone came through and cleaned out their character. The next 1% was because something actually did happen. Usually because the server crashed and then rolled back to a previous complete restore point. In which case any items they received after that point are gone with no record to figure out what they had.

The last 1% is because of actual character corruption. In this case usually something did get jacked up on the server. Bad code on saving stuff and entering a mutex or whatever or a bad sector of the drive formed. whatever the reason for the corruption, usually in this case is the becomes character unplayable until a restore on that character can be done to a previous saved off point. That practically sums up 100% of the missing item reports I've ever seen or heard of.

Not saying that is what happened to the above poster, but I'm almost willing to be money it's one of the 95% category of why his or his wife's character is missing gear and not from some random bug gremlin going through Mythics data storage eating tasty bit and bytes of magical gear off characters.

Trust me, there are bugs. I listed above each major bug I've encountered personally and how to work around those bugs. Just because people are listing possible deal breaking bugs for a game doesn't make them a Wow fanboi. I can't stand WoW, haven't since I played the beta although friends have roped me into playing it a few items over the past few years since I had nothing else to do at the time. I'd play it for about 3 or 4 months. Max out a character and promptly quit from boredom.

Last night I encountered a few more bugs that are related to the massive lag my server was experiencing. I was in an RVR scenario at one point and NO ONE could hit me. I couldn't attack anyone else either as I kept receiving either the message "Target not in range" or "Invalid target." I'm sure the order team was getting the same thing trying to hit me. This actually worked in our favor, because I found as a witch elf, being a front line squishy means EVERYONE focuses on you. So while the entire order team is trying to focus on me and figure out why the hell they can't hit me, my team is tearing them apart one by one. Not that I could do anything to solve the issue. It happened more then a few times last night. A couple to me, and a few to other people.

Another lag issue is dealing with queue times to log on a server. If you reach ZERO in the queue and the game starts the process of logging you in, BUT you lag out enough to force a time out without closing the game. Guess what? That's right, you are bumped right back into the character selection screen and have to wait on the queue all over again. I suggest not running something like a bit torrent download in the back ground while near the end of the queue because you'll be sorry.

There are several visual sync issues in the game, where what the client shows to be happening is not what the server understands is happening.

The most common is ranged mobs with a bounce-back ability. They'll throw you, the client will represent them as running toward you with their melee weapon, when actually they're taking their ranged weapon back out...so you stand there trying to attack this mob standing right next to you, shooting you, yet he's not in range. It's happened very rarely in RvR, too. This is the most frustrating bug I've noticed, however, I'm sure it will get fixed eventually and it's hardly a deal-breaker.

The bug you are refering to I mentioned above already. That mainly deals with monsters, and not players so much, but if you are a range class, you can still attack. Because although you screen shows the monster in melee range when it is in fact a few steps away out of melee and using range attacks, if you are using range attacks as well it's a moot point. The monster will shoot you and vice versa.

What I encountered was something to do with possibly that bug and a combonation of lag. The server I was on last night, Volkmarr was TERRIBLE for lag. First time it was that bad and everyone on my guilds vent was complaining and having issues. In my case, no one could hit me either with melee or range, nor heal me. Nor could I hit anyone else.

At one point later, I had a monster "catch up" of server finally doing some of what I should have had happen. I promptly got nailed for about 20,000+ damage and healing. When I was outside the scenario. It was weird. As I said, mine was a lag related bug.
