I finally figured out what looked so odd about the Orcs! They have... eyebrows. I didn't even notice this interesting fact about WarCraft until someone asked about it at Blizzcon a few years ago, but Thrall is the only Orc with eyebrows. However, every Orc seems to have them in the trailer. D:

Actually, they probably just look weird because of the uncanny valley, but eh.

Think people are making statements more about what they perceive it will be vice the actual product. The way they did the trailer it was little more than a bunch of stills shown as each segment was incredibly brief.

The main orc chars in this movie are the old warlords right? Durotan, black hand, ogrim, nerzhul, etc.

Thrall is the baby in the trailer that gets sent away in the basket (ala moses style), which I assume will be picked up by humans and thus the story of Thrall begins.

I'm not sure how many of the warlords that we'll end up seeing. The hardest part is that we don't know what they're going to do to the story. Unless they want to stuff in a bunch of silly narration at the beginning, I doubt they're going to include the Burning Legion in this story. I don't think Ner'zhul is even credited in the movie, so we're most likely just going to deal with his apprentice, Gul'dan. If I had to guess, this will be an incredibly condensed/distilled version of the WarCraft story. Gul'dan will most likely be the main antagonist, which he pretty much was in early WarCraft lore -- albeit, that was mostly in the shadows through his puppet Warchief Blackhand.

If I had to guess, we're mostly going to see Durotan, Draka and Gul'dan on the side of the Orcs. We might see side-characters like Drek'thar and Orgrim Doomhammer. (Doomhammer isn't that much of a side character in the lore, but for this story, he may be.) Keep in mind that Durotan's Frostwolf orcs are more shamanistic than most, and I'm expecting them (Durotan, Drek'thar, or both) to get a vision that Gul'dan will lead the Orcs to destruction. That's what will probably lead them to want to work with the humans to find a peaceful solution.

Weren't the 2 main speaking Orcs in the trailer Durotan and Doomhammer?

Yeah, they could prune a LOT of the lore and still have a compelling movie/story.

Hell, maybe they should.

The only thing is, I think maybe they missed the boat a little. The original Warcraft / Warcraft II had a certain sense of humor to them that seems totally lost here. Maybe I'm just stuck in a pre-9/11 mindset - or maybe just a pre-LoTR mindset - but I feel like a mostly animated kids' movie, where the "armies" are 20-30 people who humorously incapacitate their enemies using sanitized cartoon violence, and the Orcs are just funny dumb comic relief goofs, would have been just as entertaining, probably a lot cheaper to produce, and likely a lot more profitable as a result.

Hm, I didn't pay too much attention to the other male Orc, but he does appear to be wielding The Doomhammer. Since Durotan is currently chieftan of the Frostwolves, that means Orgrim would have his hammer (his father is dead).

I'd rather a warcraft movie from the perspective of the peasants. I want to know what that dude's life is like, endlessly chopping trees or mining for gold, walking back and forth, day and night. Sometimes a roving gang of monsters shows up at your door and kills all the guards, maybe even some of your peasant friends, but you just keep on working like nothing is going on.

Those guys are beaten back, then someone orders you to fix the wall for the 8th time and build 2! towers this time. Back to carrying gold. All the while, you haven't even seen your wife in 2 months even though your house is about 10 paces from the gold mine.

This made me laugh more than it should.

ugh, wish they used costumes/prosthetics over cgi. The Orcs look so out of place with the humans for all the wrong reasons.

Warcraft: The Beginning will be released in the UK on May 30 ahead of its release in the US.

New title? (at least looks that way for outside of US), planning trilogy already?

I'm not a big WC fan anyway, but this looks like it'll go down as another poor video game movie

I wouldn't mind seeing this actually...I'm very easy to please. The only thing that gets me is low quality CGI, other than that, I ALWAYS enjoy the popcorn at the very least so it's all good.

For cgi, the orcs and scenary from what i've scene actually look pretty good. Will be hard to judge the movie without actually seeing it.

I just wish if we HAD to go the CGI route for characters that the whole thing had been CGI. Humans, backgrounds etc like with the WoW cinematics.
