Why? Most people (Probably at least 90%) that download the games never intended to buy it anyway. Some of them actually decide the game is good and buy it- either for Online play or just to support a good game maker once they decide the game is good.

I've heard this argument before, and basically, I don't buy it. Almost all games have limited demonstration versions available, and it's not hard to find reviews or to ask people who own the game if it is good -- so you don't "need" to be able to pirate games to "try them out".

Yes, there are (some) people who would download the game and then buy it anyway if they like it. But there are also a lot of people (IMO, a lot more than the previous category) who won't buy the game if they can pirate it, but might buy it if they couldn't. They wouldn't play as many games if piracy was harder/impossible, but they would pay for the games they wanted badly enough.

It is definitly not detracting from the gaming industry given that no game from any reputable publisher is playable online wihout a real key..

I suppose nobody plays games for single-player content anymore?

I don't like to pirate games because I'm lazy. Also since the PC gaming industry is in such a slump you just end up hurting the hobby you enjoy if you do pirate. If anything, go pirate PS2/PS3 games and help kill off consoles! j/k

I don't buy for single player content only....maybe I can do it for instant action against bots (not the CS:S bots though!) but if its single player only (kinda like Unreal 2 was I think) I won't touch it...play it once, it may or may not have some replaying enjoyment in it....but thats all.

The one that sticks out though is Hitman2, I can play some of the levels in there infinte times and get much enjoyment out of wiping the levels clean....but that's really the only one like that....Hitman3 wasn't as good....another one would be Theif 3, Deus Ex 2, and possibly 1, since they were not so linear, and again had different ways of doing things....funny, all of them were Eidos.

Actually what you are doing is illegal. Breaking the copy protection and ripping the disc isn't legal

There are some questions as to whether these provisions of the DMCA would actually hold up in court, but technically, yes, it is illegal to break encryption in the US right now, even if you do not do anything illegal with the content once you have it in an unencrypted format.
Somehow I'm not surprised just doing it for ease of use still makes me technically an outlaw :brokenheart: "Ignorance of the law is no excuse" but damn! I wish lobbyist didn't have so much influence on what the law states :light:

That would be a "yes, I do play single-player games to some extent."

I play SP content mostly. I got really into CS back in the day, but I just don't have time to find a server, load it, wait to play, get my ass kicked around a bit, wait for new game to start, etc. I like to get in and have some fun

Ummmm, owned? That's what you get for creating threadcrap in the original thread, and for creating this threadcrap (in the wrong place too!)

I can tell you with absolute certainty that if flaming the warez kiddies gets them to pay for their game I will significantly increase my efforts. I have seen too many good guys lose their jobs because of the warez kiddies and their slaughtering of PC game sales. When warez sites are getting more downloads for a title then retail sales there is a serious problem- when the devs who made that game lose their jobs because of the warez kiddies it really pisses off any remotely decent human being. In the PC space a 10K difference in sales can mean several people's jobs- that is the reality of the marketplace.

basically all the warez people are communists, they all think they should have the right to have the same as everyone else..........they forget that in a democratic capitalist society you are supposed to earn your right to have something, but they dont want to earn it so they steal it.......

i've downloaded MP3's as a preview before now, if i like it i go buy it on CD because my hifi system makes MP3's sound sh!te, if i dont like it i delete it........that is something i dont have a problem with...

but downloading music or games or films to keep for free is just sad, your a criminal, same as someone who steals from a shop, and quite frankly if you end up getting caught and fined or community service etc then you deserve it.........more than likely you wont care tho and end up getting in to more crime eventually...sad gits...
