Warhammer Online billing error...amazing.

Reason #823 why I don't play MMOs...looks like through a billing error, people were charged multiple times for subscriptions.

Yeah this happened to me, got charged 5 times yesterday. Mythic sent out an email about it, but wtf it's still pretty screwed up. I won't be canceling my sub though, only MMO out right now that's actually fun for me.

One thing to fuck over someone with some game breaking bug...another thing to fuck them over in the real world. Some people have hundreds in overdraft fees.

Obviously this is nothing unique to MMOs, but getting billed multiple times is a major pain and why I rarely use my debit card. It's always better to be arguing about paying somebody money then it is to be arguing about them giving your money back to you.

I work with a guy this happened to, except it was Blizzard for WOW, and it happened a couple months ago.

But yea, apparently they charged him over 800$, and over drafted his account several times.

Anyway FWIW it sucks, i agree with getting a prepaid visa or something before buying anything from online games.

It looks like people that cancelled in the last ~3 months or so had a chance to get charged. Possibly definitely got charged. I can't remember many posts at all in 20 pages saying they didn't get charged, just varying degrees of severity.

The main thing I saw was that if you played WAR, ever, CHECK TO MAKE SURE THEY DIDN'T CHARGE YOU. They say that all of it would be refunded, but I doubt they would mind keeping some of your money. I feel really bad for the people that have a grand in overdraft fees because of this. Banks don't have to waive things like this, and if EA or Mythic don't pony up, those people are F.U.C.K.E.D.

If EA/Mythic choose not to pay all those overdraft fees they caused you can bet a class-action lawsuit would be forthcoming, and they'd have to pay out 10x more than the damage they caused.

Man, this is definitely not good for Mythic. This kind of thing spreads through the internet like wildfire. Doesn't help that the same thing happened in 2008. They're likely going to be hit with a significant drop in subscribers (both those affected and those not affected) along with folks that were thinking of subscribing to the game deciding not to after hearing about this issue.

People are starting to get refunds, and Mythic is saying they are going to pay overdraft fees that this caused if the banks wont waive them.
