Warm? Did someone say warm?? I believe this is HOT not warm, the cheapest this router sells for on pricewatch is $118.95 + shipping... Can anyone tell me what the difference if any there is between the Netgear MR314 and the MR314NA models? I notice I have seen both, wasn't sure if this is perhaps an older model with less features and compatabililty and maybe thats why its so cheap??

Got to love Microsoft.... Hopefully they will fix their site soon.

Was going to jump on this but when I went to check out, had second thoughts. This is not eligible for free shipping so Buy.com adds a whopping $11 for ground shipping. Excuse me. That puts the price backup to $91 delivered. May still be a good price but not hot. If you add the $30 rebate (always a roll of the dice), then it becomes better but you then have to wait....

No MR314NA model in netgear's website. Not sure if that model exists.

It's still $30 cheaper than any place else reputable. That is HOT in my book. And the $30 MIR make it flaming. If you don't like it, fine, but don't try to spoil it for the rest of us

You could PM this at your local Staples B&M, use a $15 off $75 floating around, and Staples has a $20 rebate here. I am one of the lucky ones whose Staples doesn't charge shipping and will PM and use a coupon. Cost would be

$79.99
-$ 6.99 110% PM
+$ 2.00 any item to get to $75
- $15.00 coupon
- $20.00 rebate

Final = $40 AR + you tax

I would say that's pretty hot! Of course, YMMV.

I have this and a Linksys WAP11 in my attic. The Linksys is nice since I was able to attach a high gain antenna, and my neighbors now get signal. The MR314 is used for the computers inside the house.

This stuff is just too cheap nowadays not to buy it.

Why do u use this and WAP together? For broadcasting to the neighbors? Are you supplying pirated DSL to the whole hood? haha

emaij,

No, cable modem service, I mean "file sharing", with 3 neighbors.

I get my rebates from New Rochelle, but it is 25 minutes away from me.

Interesting.. As I was viewing the buy.com page, I saw the number of routers remaining in inventory was 113. I wondered how fast they were going, so I refreshed, and it was down to 100. I then browsed a bit in another window, refreshed again, and it was back to 111. Strange.

they probably reserve a unit for people who add it to their cart for a certain period of time. then, when they abandon, the qty available goes back up. just a guess.

Just got back from my local Staples. First time I ever did a PM and must say it went very smooth and easy. Although they added an arbitray $5 shipping charge (much better than Buy.com), there was a 110% low price guarantee credit. Out the door, it was $83.94 including tax. After $20 MIR, final price is $64 (couldn't find the $15 off $75 coupon, pls pm if anyone has the URL). Yeah, I could have saved another $3 by going through Buy.com, but (1) less rebate $ to wait for and (2) have it in hand...NOW...which is a major consideration anytime, but especially for me since the cable company will be out Tuesday to install roadrunner broadband . I was definitely needing a router for security purposes so this is right on time. I had planned on buying a hardwired router (have a CAT5 network in my home) but a friend suggested I buy up to a wireless unit for future flexibility.

BTW, hope other do not mind me going OT, is this a good unit? I've always had pretty good luck with Netgear stuff but reading reviews of routers, especially wireless routers is confusing. Seems like regardless of the brand / model number, opinions tend to be all over. Some users extoll a product while others complain bitterly. Take your pick and someone loves or hates the performance, support, installation...you name it. Almost as if they are talking about different products, so extreme are the opinions.

From what I could glean on wireless, Linksys seems to have some of the weakest range. SMC and Siemens (Speedstream) require frequent booting/resetting. Netgear seems to not have as many highs...but fewer groans. Would appreciate users comments from the forum. Opinions?

ERICB00 - can you give some info on the high gain antenna you spoke of. I've been having range issues with my linksys and have been looking for a good antenna(without much luck!!)

Raz,

HDCOM has a variety of antennas with adapters to extend range. I bought a directional antenna, but they also sell omn-drectionals, in all sizes and flavors. My antenna was about $80 with the adapter, but I may get an omnidirectional too.

I also use one of their antennas for a PC card. They are nice people, have good prices, and you can just call them and tell them what you need, and they will recommend which product to choose.

They really do work well, and are easier than building something out of a Pringles can like some people do.

Good luck.
