I'd buy that buy CF cards appear to be on the way out. I doubt my next camera would use it and it'd be a pitty to turf a 1GB card.

no way, they are the main card used in higher end cameras. nikon, canon, even SONY (!!) put it on their 828!

I highly doubt this is the case. Many manufactures have already announced higher capacity versions. The higher capacity versions incorporate FAT32 format to get around the 2Gig limitation of FAT16 file format. CompactFlash cards are the least expensive type of add-in memory for digi-cams and PDAs, mainly due to their popularity.

CF will not be replaced in high end and professional level cameras for several years, at the very earliest.

It appears in fuji cameras (S5000 & S7000) and some others. Not sure if it is any good but it appears to be a little more $ per MB

I'd have to agree with pkananen's comment, why would Canon put a CF card in their new Digital SLR Rebel (marketed at consumers if you haven't seen the comercials) IF CF were on the way out.

CF is definately not on the way out. It's cheap and it has a form factor that lends itself to design of disk based cards with huge capacities. I hear that we're going to be seeing 6 and 8 GB CF media pretty soon. In any case CF is cheaper than SD or anything else right now, and probably always will be.

CF is also "smarter" than the other flash types. It's the only media, for example, that will emulate an IDE device. Which makes for a very handy CF reader if you're smart and have a spare IDE port.

fuji doesn't use CF. they used smartmedia and now use xD. 3800 is newer, so uses xD i think

i can't believe no one caught this error. fat goes up to 2 gigs. not fat32. fat32 goes way beyond
