It doesn't say that it's FD Trinitron but I talked with Directron and they told me it's the same as the 21" black Dell they're offering which is an FD Trinitron. The specs also match, but I would double-check. $409 ... kinda warm?

I myself have a 17" trinitron and its great!

But its heavy (40 pounds)

I'm sure the shipping on this will kill

We use them in the Intensive Care Units at the hospital, VERY nice monitors. I was looking into getting one a year ago and they were ~$900.

<must resist the temptation>

it does say "Specifications: Display type: 21" Aperture Grill (19.8" viewable). " as far as i know all aperature grill monitors are flat, trinitron type screens. while shadow mask is the traditional curved screens..

they call it the HP P1110. dell's previous generation of beige 21" monitors was the Dell P1110 (sitting in front of mine at the moment), which is a sony FD trinitron flat monitor. if it's the same stuff, just made OEM by sony for HP instead of Dell, then it's a pretty good deal. maybe I'll grab one too.

it does say

HP P1110 21 inch color flat screen monitors, 0.24mm dot pitch. Suggested retail price: $599+tax.

Aperture grills do not mean that it has to be flat. it's just the a type of grill.

looks like a good deal but I wouldn't be surprised if the price on these monitors comes down with the prices of 19" and lcds having fallen a lot

the 21" is nice. 2 19" might be nicer. best way to tell is to go to a computer store and sit in front of a 21" first, then sit in front of a pair of 19" monitors. slight size difference, but if you have lots of windows open all the time and can play a game on one screen and surf the web on another at the same time, I'd rather go for the pair of 19" sammies.

I just called HP's biz line (800-613-2222) and asked whether it was perfectly flat and he said it is curved. He seemed to know this offhand, so it might be worth calling and getting a second opinion, but it doesn't look good for us picky flat people.
Will there ever be a good flat 21" CRT for ~500?????

Yeah, but aren't those Samsung's not really flat? Like they're curved on the inside but flat on the outside? We have a supposedly flat screen Samsung at work and if you look at it from an angle (like above) you can see the interior of the CRT is curved, even though the exterior of the glass is flat.

Just did a search on HP's website concerning the P1110. I found the documentation and (drum roll)...

IT IS AN FD TRINITRON!!!

Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your server.

Yeah the Dell 1130 was like 400 from Tigerdirect ( i know they are a sucky company) and one from dell directly was like 530 when they did the 20% off so my quess is that in a matter of weeks the prices would be under 500 for a decient 21inch fs.

Would the Samsung Syncmaster 1100P 21" at the Gateway accessory store be a better deal? It has free shipping and after the 50 off 199 it comes to $459.95. Seems a bit less risky (I don't like the idea of paying shipping both ways on a DOA item...) but I'm wondering if the quality is similar.

The deal with the samsung flatness is that the the screen is curved and offset a little so that when you look at it actually appears perfectly flat instead of the sony/kts thing where they appear to be curving in (concave), the samsungs ofset it slightly so that the curvature after refraction looks to be perfectly flat.

Not sure if I like the flatness of the samsung verses the concaveness of the sony trinitron better, far more used to seeing the concave so my eye kinda tends to lean towards it, but the truth is because of the convex nature of the samsung its actually flatter (strange huh).

The price has risen to $459, but there's a $10 off coupon somewhere on www.mikhailtech.com... You can find it.

Regarding refurbs, the FAQ sez:
"The products sold on Directron.com web site are brand-new and marked as either OEM or retail box. Manufacturer-refurbished products with manufacturer warranty will occasionally be available in the Clearance section and WILL be specifically marked as such."

If you look at the refurbs, they are clearly marked and this one is not.
So I'm about to purchase. Holler quick if you think I should stop!
