Rite-Aid has 50-pk Fuji 48x CD-Rs on sale for $9.99.

At my local Rite-Aid (Oregon Cty, OR), most of the 50 pks were Taiwanese, but digging around to the back of the display, I found a couple of Japanese (i.e., TY) packs still in stock.

If you're near a Rite-Aid, it might be worth your while to stop and check what they've got on the shelves.

I have never really notice the place where my cds where made.

does it really matter? the only cds i ever had any sort of problems were PNY and cheap circuitcity ones.

Does it matter if it has green or blue bottoms? what about the "Cool Color" from memorex?

So if it made i japan then it is awesome?
TIA

Take the AD to OM and they will match the $10 and refund 15% of the difference.

Only if you have an OfficeMax or even a Rite-Aid. Sigh.

Well, there's also Best Buy, Compusa, Target, and all the other places that carry Fuji's.

Well, if they're made in Japan (which Fuji's are, though many that are made in Taiwan are starting to show up), then they're TY's which are VERY good. If they're made in Taiwan, then they're either Ritek or something else which supposedly isn't all that great, but still good.

I've used both TY's and Ritek's and haven't had any problems with either. But I've found TY's to be the best because they're more compatible with my (picky) CD players. When using Ritek's, if I burn them at a slower speed (e.g. 4x or 8x) then they seem to work better with my (picky) CD players.

There's more info here if you're interested.

CD/DVD have things that can detect and correct error on the discs. These include re-reading the disc. If you noticed some of your old/scratchy disc may take longer to read than other due to this reason.

The catch is that on CD audio component (discman, home player, car head unit), the disc is being read only as fast as it needed. So, any glitch on the disc will result on pop/scratchy noise or even small almost unnoticable degrade. Because it just does not have time to re-read the disc. Higher/premium grade discs usually have a significantly lower number of error than the cheap one. Or at least can be burned at rating speed with tolerable error count compared to cheaper disc. The lower error to start with on the disc, less problem you will have on those. Some say these disc will degrade over time slower, this I do not really believe though.

Some always advertised that TY have less problem with your stereo/car cd player. This is true only to this extent.

If you have Nero, you can try doing CDSpeed after you burned disc and compared between different disks and speed combination. The one with smoother line usually mean that there is no re-reading done (thus, much better/consistant speed.)

Actually, Ritek CD is kinda on a par for me. For me, Ritek made their name by making a much better DVD than others (at least more consistant quality.) Sony CDR, Maxell and even Prodisc are *sometimes* even better. That is of course when you cannot find TY.

This largely is different between burner to burner. Find discs and speed combination that works best for you is the only way to go.

For Taiyo Yuden there's 2 things to look for. One, it says made in Japan (typically right next to UPC code). Two, look at the top. As far as I know most Taiyo Yuden's have a screw on cap for the top. (i.e. a plastic little cap that screws onto spindle).
If you can find Taiyo Yuden, this is a fairly good deal. If you can't, its not that good. I think last time I bought Taiyo Yuden's I paid about $20 for 100 and I think it was at target or walmart.

I think they stopped with the screw-on caps all together.
Haven't seen those in like a year -- and I always get the Japan ones.

Now about that Rite-Aid ad -- does anybody have it?

Ad? Not necessary when you have this. Sale ends Feb. 7.

I don't think the picture is an actual representation of what the actual product is. I haven't seen any 16x (max) CD-Rs in many years. I doubt they even exist anymore at retail stores.
