Why would you need to control fans--why not just have 'em running all the time?

When you have a 38 cfm 60mm delta screaming in your computer, its nice to turn it down when you are not gaming. Also, some people have 4-6 (or more) fans running and that can get loud.

When you have 3x120mm fans screaming louder than a vacuum machine (i'm exaggerating, but not by much), it's nice to be able to easily turn them off or lower their RPM to decrease the dB level so you can actually sleep in the same room as the computer

I am actually thinking of designing one of these.

man, very tempted.

I just spent 18 bucks in parts today, was thinking about making two of these suckers, man maybe I should get one anyway. much rather have a 7volt/12volt baybus though.

anyone out there already have these? the site states it the lower setting may not work with more powerful fans. let's say I hook up a tornado to the sucker, would it even start?

In my experience, most fans will start and run at 7v. Generally, the larger the fan, the higher the chance that it won't start up at 7v. I had one 120mm fan that ocasionally wouldn't start at 5v.

Review and pics here

That's a great price, no doubt!

It is not rated for the more powerful fans like the tornado though. It does get a bit warm, and with one like a tornado that may damage it.

Works great. Will not work correctly with temp controllled or lighted fans.

NOOOOOOOOO. I just finished putting together some 4 port baybuses with some friends at $21 apiece about a month ago. Considering I have 5 case fans (and 1 more fan for the alpha 8045 of course), this would've been perfect. Oh well.

By the way, when you've made blowholes in your case and have 3 120mm fans raging, a baybus is nifty for minimizing noise. I have to have my fans on max though or else my oc'd ti4200 crashes when gaming tho ;p

On the 7v setting you can adjust it between 7 and 9 volts for the fans that need a little more power.

What exactly is the problem with using it with temp controlled fans?

Also does this thing have connections for molex or not? It says "4 pin molex connection also located on rear of PCB for easier access.
"
but at the bottem it has the option to buy tailed connectors...

The molex is to provide power to the baybus. The fans themselves need to be tailed.

What happens when you don't order it with a cover? Does it just come in parts, so you have to drill holes into your own drive bay covers?

Yes, you have drill holes into your own bay covers. The kit does provide a lexan drill template with adhesive -- works pretty well.

No, it does work with lighted fans. I'm currently using mine with four Antec LED fans along with two cold cathodes and it works perfectly.
