Most likely, since my Plextor 8X is supported for RAW DAO 96. It's possible its so new it wasn't listed. You could send an e-mail to the CloneCD people and ask.

i just want a good cdrom, but it seems a lot of knowledgeable people are talking here... the one i have now is dying(doesn't show in explorer till i either give the case a few whacks like in sanford and son or reboot) anybody have any deals on those? all i see are cdrw/dvd and i don't know if they'd be that reliable for playing some of this janky media like trlr...

Hey Sexual, how'd you get the CDRW for $80 from Staples?? I'm thinking about doing the deal also. $120 for the CDRW, and $80 for the scanner. I'd be able to use the $30 off of $100 code, and if the cdrw is really $80, I think it would be a heck of a deal. LMK...Thanks

Unclebud:
Lot of people are recommending Newegg's 12X lite-on. It's 72 plus 4 shipping and no tax outside CA. 12X Lite-on There's also two different LG (Goldstar), CDRW's at Best buy. One's an 8x/4X/32X for 79.99 with free shipping and 30 rebate. It only has a 2 mb buffer but it works well. I picked one up for a co-worker a couple of months ago at Microcenter and he's satified with it. The other is the 12X/8X/32X LG with 8 Mb buffer (sorry no BP), but its 79.99 with free shipping also. Check it out here LG Drives
I would probably go with the Lite-on from newegg.

To get it from STaples for $80 just do this

Drive = $119.98
Scanner = $79.98
Paperclips =.17

Coupon = $40 off $200

Rebate = $79.98 (Scanner is free after MIR)

Total is $80

I just came home, did the deal at my local Staples but they were out of the scanner. Manager sold me the package and I have an IOU for the scanner, if it doesnt come in on Wednesday shipment, he will have one transferred from another store. Ill let you know how the drive performs, about to install it now.

To make the deal even sweeter, I just plugged it in and the drive is a LTR-1201B I even checked the writing on the drive to confirm this , so its a Lite-On rebadged. Cant go wrong there.

The Lite-ON you speak of on Newegg is the same model # as the HP I just got in the HP deal, its a rebadged Lite-On.

Seems like a nice deal but why does HP only offer a 90 day warranty for the scanner and the CDRW???? Most reputable companies give 1 year. Gives me a bad feeling about HP if they can't feel comfortable about giving 1 year for these products.
CDRW warranty

scanner warranty

The Ricoh does support CD Clone. I have both and they work fine, hold hands, and dance in the grass together without giving each other a hickie.

Due to Staples giving me a hard time before using online coupons I have been doing the following. Buying what I want online , then cancelling the deal by phone as soon as I place order, then taking my printed out internet order receipt into the store, explain to the manager that you cant wait for delivery so you cancelled your online order and need the products on your receipt rung up. Youll notice on the receipt it shows the coupon code and the $$ amount for the coupon. Works great for me and so far *knocks on wood* my internet orders have never ended up hitting my CC , so I dont have to deal with getting a refund.

OK question for the CDRW gurus out here. Nero doesnt see my CDRW, so can I use the newest Lite-On Firmware (1210c) on this drive and be ok?? Ive never changed the firmware before.

Some user feedback

*****************************

Some CDRLabs review-comments re Lite-On 161040:

<< The Lite-On has a maximum DAE rate of 32x. Like the TEAC drive, it uses P-CAV (or Z-CAV as some of you like to call it) to reach this speed. It reached it's rated speed of 32x about halfway through the CD, giving it a much higher overall average speed than a pure 32x CAV drive.

Overall the DAE quality was not as good as the other two drives. In most of the test runs it scored a 9. Very few times the drive was able to get a perfect 10. The Lite-On drive also had a hard time keeping an accurate stream. It could only do this about half of the time. While getting "No" for an accurate stream is not all bad, it does mean that under some circumstances you might hear some clicks or pops when the extraction process is delayed by scratches or dirt on the CD.

A lot of websites use CD Speed 99 because it can give a good idea of the overall DAE speeds of a drive. Here at CDRLabs we also want to know the quality of the audio extracted. CD DAE 99 is an quick and easy way to test the quality. CD DAE 99 does a track by track extraction of the CD. It runs the extraction twice for every track and then compares them to test for any errors. Every error a drive creates could be a hiss or pop you would hear later in the audio tracks.

The Lite-On drive didn't do as well when extracting audio track by track as it did when doing an entire session. It's average speed was a little lower than in CD Speed but unlike the TEAC drive it was able to reach it's maximum speed of 32x.

CD DAE 99 and CD Speed v0.81 - CD-R Media:

For this test I am using a copy of the Pure Funk CD. It's burned onto the same Memorex Gold 74 minute media I used in the CD Speed 99 tests.

The Lite-On's DAE performance was about the same with CD-R media. Again, most of the time its quality was only a 9 and could not keep an accurate stream most of the time.

Overall the drive's DAE performance was alright. While in most cases it was faster than the TEAC, the issue of quality comes up. Even though it had very few errors in CD DAE, the low DAE quality rating in CD Speed and inability to keep an accurate stream do concern me. Hopefully this can be fixed in a future firmware version.
