Of course the important stuff must still be burned @ 8X.

I would want a drive that fast just to see how much damage a disk that shatters at that speed could do.

I wouldn't want to be inside the same room with that thing. Who knows what in the hell would happen. Could you imagine how much noise it would make?

ok, I haven't been following this discussions for long, so can someone tell me just how much better are liteons compared to the other drives

what's the fuss when the speeds are supposed to be standard at 52x or 48x?

thanks.

I think everybody here likes Lite-Ons because they are inexpensive, proven solid performers, and they have the "smart burn" technology (but don't all today's burners have this?).

Right now I need a CD burner and have been looking at the advertised $20 ones (after rebate) at Office Max but I'm not sure if they're Lite-Ons. The sales person said they're Cendyne, but I don't think he was sure...

I have bought a number of the Cendyne drives at OM in the last year or so, All the rebates have come through for me.
I have recieved Mitsumi,Lite On, and others..they all worked fine. By the way the 48x12x48 drives are 48x16x48 inside the box, at least the last 3 that I got were.

the one I got today is a mod # 4816A I have no idea who made it, but it burns fine.

mine says its on backorder... anyone know how long it usually takes them to get more in, or if they ever will? The rebate says I have to postmark it 15 days after purchase... does that mean 15 days after I get the "this is not an invoice" page, or actually 15 days after i bought it cuz if its on backorder i might not get it out in time...

Edit: WOW its my birthday... completely forgot... guess thats what college does to ya... time to go a drinkin'!

same issue with nero(not the express issue that came w/my 4824P)
using discjuggler had no problems when i set it at 24x w/ cache before burn. it says it can only read at 24x shouldn't be an issue with my system.
just figured it was my luck with a benq
already sent in the serial and upc for rebate, can i still return it for exchange?
anyone know what are this weeks om 19.99 after mir cdrs? no brand listed in flyer.

fixation error -- had that with one of my 32x benqs (the other one is worse) 3210A
try changing the media to some of the cheaper stuff (instead of ty), worked for me
however, made me so mad that i took it out and put in the 32x lg
i gave it to my pop, he don't burn nothing anyway, because he won't clean his hd up
benq burners will act a fool in a minute
but when they work, they work good, knock some sd2 out the box
make a cool whirring sound also when opening and closing, unlike noisy lite-on
"take the good, and take the bad, and there you have" *starts dancing around the room*

this week on the front page of OM's flyer... they advertise a "nameless" 48x cdrw for $20 after rebate. i believe it is out the door for $50 - $30 mir. i went to the store to inquire of the brand, and apparently, it is the same 48x cendyne from last week. they were out of 48x cendynes (i specifically asked for the lite-on model), but they guy came back with a 52x cendyne. he also nicely pointed out the model number, which is apparently that of a lite-on. i'm not sure if anyone else posted this... but in summary... pretty much 3/2/03 week's sale has carried over to this week.

i got a 52x cendyne as a substitute for the 48x brandless cdrw OM advertised in this weeks flyer. model number leads me to believe it is a lite-on.
