This is my first time posting a deal so if I did something wrong phhhbbbbttt!

Anyhow, I just walked out of the local Office Max with a "Cendyne Lightning iv" CDRW for 19.99. Price is $79.99 -30 Instant Rebate -30 MIR. It's supposedly a 48x12x48, but it's also definately a Lite-On LTR-48125W, and I've heard you can do a firmware upgrade to make it a 52x. Not that I know how, but hey! I never use CD-RW's anyhow since CDR's are so cheap, I figure 48x is probably fast enough.

The Office Max website also lists the 52x24x52 Cendyne as "69.99 before rebates," but that's a typo. In-store, the Lightning V Cendyne is 99.99 - 30 IR - 30 MIR, for 39.99.

Meow.

Good, I need a cd-rom for my second machine and this should do nicely. But, there is a cheaper TDK from CompUSA I'm looking at.

Lite-Ons are awesome but it is only the 481225S, 481226S, and 482426S that you can flash to a 52x (basically any 48x that ends in S).. Not much difference between 48x and 52x tho

Hmm. I got my $30 Cendyne rebate 6 weeks after i submitted. Only gripe is that it was one of those postcard checks, easily discarded as junkmail.

1 rebate = 4 months
1 rebate = 3 months waiting, check reissued, another two months, all after 5+ telephone calls

Not exactly a type of rebate I am looking forward to. Scr*w Cendyne.

So do an end run around the rebate hassle.

Buy one at your local Circuit City with a 110% pricematch, and beat OfficeMax at their own game.

As long as Circuit City doesn't have a valid rebate on the drive, and OM has one in stock, you're good to go.

Heads up: I just picked up two of these today local SLC Utah they are not Lite-on drives they are BenQ or Acer, they are not worth the cardboard there shipped in. Check the model #'s on the box (4824P) is a BenQ, (LTR-48246S) also (LTD-4824) are Lite-on drives.

Good luck all.....

The newer 48x Cendyne's are not Liteon, but lots of older stock on store shelves are Liteon. Only Liteon models that end in 6s are flashable to 52x. They have the newest "6" series Mediatek chipset.

HELP -

The local Office Max has the following two deals:

Cendyne 48x12x48 CDRW for $20 after rebates
Cendyne 52x24x52 CDRW for $40 after rebates

The problem is that they do not have any Lite-ons in the 48x CDRWs. Their 52x ones are Lite-ons.

Best Buy this week has the Sony 48x24x48 CRX215A1 CDRW (always a lite-on from what I understand) for $30 after rebate.

Which one should I get? Since the Sony can be upgraded to a lite-on 52x with firmware, the only difference is bundled software. The Sony does not have Nero while the Cendyne does. I am only doing very simple buring with the CDRW - nothing overly complicated.

Any help appreciated!

Hey my Cendyne/Lite-On is working great, did an MST3k episode burn in 2 mins (my old acer was like 5-6).

BUT, it makes this fast stacatto "tick-tick-tick" sound when the tray closes. Is that normal on a Lite-On? Otherwise it seems to work great.

I received the Cendyne from OfficeMax today with the model number [4816A]

The web says this is a Asus CRW-4816A 48X/16X/48X.

Anyone know anything about the drive?

Regards,

Yeah, watch out. Cendyne also packages BenQ, Asus, and AOpen drives in these boxes aside from the Lite-On. I have been to 1 Office Max and 2 Staples and have had no luck finding a Lite-On drive. Right now I have got the Aopen.

I'm waiting for a 60,000,000,000 X 24,000,000,000 X 60,000,000,000 (with a firmware hack to 66,000,000,000 X 24,000,000,000 X 66,000,000,000) drive so I can listen to CD-Rs 13 seconds after they're recorded "in session".

Of course the important stuff must still be burned @ 8X.

I would want a drive that fast just to see how much damage a disk that shatters at that speed could do.
