warm?: Circuit City 32" RCA tv for $299.

I'm not sure how many other Circuit City stores will do this, but here's my story.

I saw this Sunday's CC newspaper ad, and saw they have some Magnavox 32" TVs for $299. Seemed like a nice price to me, $50 off regular price.

I decided to go buy one. The salesman told me that they were all out, but the store was swapping them for a nice RCA 32" tv for the same $299 price. The RCA is a nicer tv, some more jacks on the back, a little nicer picture, etc. So I took that instead. The RCA was last-years model, but is a nice tv. Regular price was marked at $375.

So, maybe someone else can get in on this. I'm happy with mine.

BTW: I was at the Roseville, Minnesota location. Also, the TV is a bit heavy... Make sure you have some help hauling it, I had a hell of a time pushing it up the stairs and into my apartment (2nd floor) all by myself...

Not to thread crap but I heard RCA televisions tend to have the highest repair rates versus other manufacturers' televisions.

RCA makes a lot of crap. I used to work at kmart and it seemed like we got more returned defective RCA stuff than we sold. My grandma has a 32" rca tv, its a few years old but now the picture is blown out of shape, you can't see anything on the sides of the screen. In my experience rca products seem to have a very short life, I would never buy something with their name on it unless I really had to.

no problems from a couple of rca tv's here. I have owned a 32" and a 20" for about 3-4 years now.

Since you're buying from CC, you may want to pay extra for the extended warranty from them. Ups the cost overall, but may be worth it (if quality concerns bother you).

I bought a 32" RCA from CC in '96. TV has logged 4000 miles and still works fine :beer:

Can't vouch for today's TVs, but I just tossed a 27" RCA that I had to repair twice in 1 year.

Not sure if this speaks for the quality of the TV or the repair man.

My next problem: Go with my experiences on the RCA and avoid it for a cheap Apex?

It speaks for the quality of the TV, although the tech could have been an idiot too.
RCA/GE make up 80% of all TV's we repair.
If it wasn't for them, there would be NO TV repair shops.
It is made to last less than 3 years. Some get lucky. Most do not.
Apex is even worse, although we fix less of them because we tell customers to just throw that garbage away.

Skip these crap sets, and spend the 10% extra for a cheap TV that is still made to last 10+ years.
Sharp (mostly made from parts in USA, and assembled here as well ).

All those that frequent hot deals forums know how bad TigerDirect is.
That is the same way all of us techs feel about RCA/GE. Avoid like the plague.
