well you don't have to stay under 4 connections. i think you can hook up like an outrageous number of computers. like 250 or so.
remember, a router doesn't necessarily hook up to computers, it just directs traffic. think of this product as a Router (handles traffic) an integrated Switch (4 ethernet ports you hook up to) and an Access Point (for the wireless connection) all in one.
so technically, you can add as many wireless devices you want, you won't hit the limit in a SOHO. you can also add more wired connections, by linking up another switch to the dlink. i think the dlink has autosensing ethernet ports so you wouldn't even have to use a crossover cable.
anyways, you can hook up quite a lot of computers to this device, don't worry about keeping it below 4.
about rebates, i sent out 3 (about to send out another one) a month ago, two are approved, check cut, while third is not in the system. they are going to get a phone call from me.
