In for ONE, was tempted to go raid 0, did research, but felt the extra $120bux was better spent either on a 150gb raptor or elsewhere..

I don't like to plunk down large bits of cash for anyone one piece of tech at one time like someone commented wait for the perp. raptor!

Never tried Raid, but I rather do it with 4 or 5 drives from what I read..

Woot! I was able to use my expiring rewardzone coupon!

Good info, I wonder how much faster 2x raptor are than 2x WD 7200.10 for 5x the price/gig.

I didn't have the 7200.10's but I actually just switched from 2x 7200.9's. I'm using those for data drives now. The raptors are very noticeably faster loading apps or games and in general use. It's not like going from a Yugo to a Porsche, but then again an e6700 C2D is $200 more than an e6600 and the speed difference in general use is relatively small. Is an x-fi platinum 5 times better than an audigy 2?

It's just the law of diminishing returns for all computer parts, but whether it's worth it or or not is up to each person. BTW, AT and this forum helps to make the diminishing returns a bit smaller with hot deals.

Everything you said I agree with, I'm just trying to get a feel for whether it's worth it or not, sometimes there's a consensus.

If we're talking 10% or less difference, it'd be pretty hard to see 5x the cost. >20% it might be making more sense.

If you have to ask "will it be worth it" for 10% gain, then no it wont be worth it, save your $$$ and buy a lg data drive [or just save your money]. I have mine set to 32 stripe, and have become accustomed to the small gain in performance, I don't know if it is 10-25% gain, but i am sure it is closer to the lower number. Based on what I have seen most that have a raided set of raptors swear by them. There are probably more people that wouldn't want to add the expense of raid 0. Beside that the deal is probably over if there are any left.

This is not a sale price. They are on clearance at BB that is the reason for the price. They are no longer available from the website, but you may be able to find them at the store. The tag at BB even said clearance price.

Man these things are noisy when they write. It's like there's a box of marbles being ground up in my pc.

I have had mine sitting on the floor literally right next to me i.e. can reach down and touch it (have it outside my case to compare to my raid 0 36gbs raptors) and I have yet to hear it, couldn't even tell it was running except for placing my hand on it. Taking it back though cuz my older 36gb's in raid 0 outperform it and I can't justify $250 to upgrade to 2 74gb raptors even though it's a great deal.

You must not be writing anything to the drives. They are dead silent at idle but as soon as you write to them, crunch crunch crunch

Picked one up yesterday with the 12% coupon. Thanks OP for the deal.

Still putting together the rest of my system.

The one I bought makes no appreciable noise, or I can't hear it over my psu fan in the case.

Thanks OP.

Just picked one up at the nearest BB (Wilmington, DE, two on the shelf) - they wouldn't take the 12% off coupon, though.

My only complaint is the same as everyone else's: that it's incredibly loud. I can hear it over the fans in my case.
