Wow, nice price for a 12x!!! I kind of doubt it at that price, but is this drive "burn-proof"?

i dont think its burn proof but its got a 4mb buffer. i had the 8xHP and was very very happy with it and it only had a 2mb buffer.

DieselMan: To my knowledge, HP does not make any of their CD-RW drives burn-proof but usually buffer size is large enough to compensate for burn-proof. (I might be wrong).

Be sure to use the newest software from HP which helps the buffer under run problem. After a learning curve and a few coasters, my 10x HP works great. I just cannot do other things when I burn CD to CD-R or it screws up.

2)use outlook
3)use AIM
4)use callwave
5)have 5-10 IEs open at once.


but thats just my system.

Maybe my CD-ROM is too slow to keep up ...... I don't know why, but I find if I try to do other stuff, I get a buffer under run error. I don't burn that many CD's so it is not a big deal (and I have 3 computers, so it is easy to use another)

I don't know if you've ever tried, but if you have your DVD-ROM connected to the same IDE channel as your burner, chances are you will run into buffer under run within a few seconds while you watch a movie. Now, don't ask why would you ever want to connect your dvd and cdr drives on the same IDE channel!

I have this burner and it is great... I surf and whatever while burning...Also CLoneCD shows BURNPROOF Don't think it is true but I love this burner anyway and great price at $79!!!!!!!!!

HP doesn't manufacture burners, so their product line is inconsistant. But this burner is real cheap so go for it... BTW, if CloneCD enables BurnProof, then try it out- it probably wouldn't let you do it if the drive didn't support it...
