Thanks for the deal. I bought one as well. And I noticed the $20 coupon expires June 30!

Been using mine for a week, now. I cannot hear it running over just a couple of small case fans. Super fast, as well

ATA100 will work with an ATA66 controller, but these numbers for the most part are marketing terms, just like AGP4x, which has very little performance difference from AGP2X. The truth is, none of these drives will ever hit 33mb/sec transfer rate, which is ATA 33. So don't base buying reasons on that number. The 7200 rpm, however, does make a very sound difference.

2mb cache (or close to it) too.

ATA/100 would mean something if you have two of the same drives, on the same controller reading at 100% speed at the fastest portion of the platters, it would then exceed 33mb/sec (ata-33) by a few percents, double that, and it would exceed ata-66, so in theory, its possible to have a gain with ata-100 over ata-66, but in likelihood that would have to be with a fast computer using RAID (hardware) level 0 striping, then you might be able to get some numbers. i doubt you'd notice it, though.

Picked up 2 of these drives at that price.. plan on the raid thing. I will let you know about the "noticeable" speed difference.

That's a pretty nice deal... and I see the remark about 5400rpm, but buy.com does have the Ibm 5400 20 gig for $103.95, minus $20 is pretty good. Shave off a few bucks, and get 5 gig more, sacrifice rpm's. Decision time.

The 5400/7200 rpm difference isn't noticeble for every user. It all depends on what you use the HD for. If you use it to store your mp3s, play a few games, some amateur programming, e-mail, etc, then the rpm difference is negligeble. If, on the other hand, you work with Photoshop or 3D modeling a lot, you visit gaming news sites more than 12 times a day, or you actually run a server, 7200rpm is a minimum.

That's a nice deal. Just picked up a 30gb Quantum Fireball Plus LM from buy.com earlier this week. $183.95 - $30 coupon - $30 manufacturer's rebate = $123.95 for one of the top-rated 7200 rpm drivers.

The $30 coupon is now dead, but there's still a working $20 coupon at

http://www.us.buy.com/promo/80260144.asp

Also, I learned a lesson in dealing with buy.com--if you see something, at a price you like, ORDER IT. I wanted to pick up a Plextor 8/4/32 cdr at $184 (pre-coupon price). Went back to the page today, and it's up to $200. ugh!
