I just received the kv27fs12 a couple days ago and I love it. I don't think it's that important but just to make things clearer, the fs model has the 'smaller footprint' (speakers on the bottom) while the FV models have to speakers on the side. This is because the FV series come with a better sounds system. Therefore, the new models of tvs have both the speakers on the bottom (FS) and speakers on the side (FV). Oh and for anyone choosing between the FS and FV, it took me about a month to decide and I finally just got the FS and boy it will not let you down! (and I don't think paying another $200 for the higher model is worth it)... hope this helps =)

To say that you have a Sony Wega means nothing except that it has
a flat screen. The Wega is availiable in all three of Sony's
lines, "S", "V" and "XBR." The XBR now only comes in a flat screen.
Both the S and V series are availiable in flat or curved screens.
I think that the price reductions that you are seeing are because
they are getting rid of old stock for new models. Kind of an
unannounced year end clearance.

No not really...the all new lowered prices aren't lowered at all. They are just the prices on the new models. Look at the prices for this years 27" models, and compare them to last years. Last year's models went for around 900, this years go between 600-700. It's not a reduction, or clearance, or anything...it is just the retail price for the new models.

I saw a display model 27" WEGA for $479 at Best Buy in Alpharetta,GA a few hours ago for anyone in the Atlanta area. I'm not sure but I thought it was the one selling for $599.

I was tempted but I couldn't figure how to sneak it upstairs to my home office without my wife shootin' me in the back!

Sorry to post this regional deal but there are a lot of Atlantan Anandtechers that might be interested.

Gotta agree with SuperRob on this one - All major chain stores who do business with the major brands have to adhere contract advertisement pricing - called MAPs (aka - Minimum Advertised Price). Now why would any store, esp stores with the buying/selling power like Circuit City choose to adhere to these MAPs? Here's the kicker - you know those flyers everyone gets in their Sunday Newspaper? Well, Sony pays Circuit City money to have their products promoted. These monies are known as CO-OP dollars. If any companies advertise their Sony's products below the MAP, Sony can and will pull their COOP dollars - which probably amounts more than the profit they make on all their Sony Products combined.

With that said - there is however no restriction on what Circuit City charges the customer for a Sony product - so long as it's not advertised below the MAP, everything is kosher.

Sony's Wega design means that it has a flat screen. There are
three different picture qualities availiable in the Wega design.
When someone says that he saw a 27" Wega for $xxx means little
without knowing which series it is. The "S" series is the bottom
of the line. Its picture quality is not as good as the "V" series.
The XBR is the top of the line having Sony's best picture, but costs
a whole lot more.

What model 36" was it for that price?

Also...the S series of Wegas doesn't necesarily mean worse picture. It all depends on the situation. The only difference between this year's FS and FV models are that the FS come w/a 3 Line Digital Filter, and the FV models come with an improved 3D Digital Filter. This does make a difference, but only when it comes to using the Composite Ins or watching TV. If you use S-Video or Component Video, it bypasses the filter all together, so the picture quality would therefore be the same on both sets in those instances. As for the XBR series...those are the HD ready models. I believe they have a built in line doubler...but I could be wrong. Sony is soon releasing the XBR400 line to take over the older XBR250s. One problem with any of the bigger Wegas is that with the flat picture tube you get the "funhouse effect"...that means that the width of the picture is sometimes uneven. The newer models have less of a funhouse effect, but it is still evident in all of the models except for the 27". Right now...Sony has only released the newer models of the FS series (FS12 and FS16)...but the FV series should be out soon. I read a press release from Sony and like I said before...the only difference is the digital filter. Okay...does that clear anything up.
