Haven't seen this posted yet and I thought some people might be interested in this. Like Gamespy, [link deleted] is a kind of game match making service. In the past they use to charge a one-time fee to register but now they're offering free registration. Oh and Kali.net will also support Warcraft 3 as well. *cough*

Take a month off for your illegal link. That should be enough to cure that cough. Next such link by ANYONE buys a lifetime elsewhere.

That not fair! I paid $10 bucks about seven years ago. Now they're giving it away for free!?! I got ripped off.

Nice deal i guess. . . but it doesn't seem as useful now as it was seven years ago. (I was the 150th person to register, one of the best $10s i ever spent)

$10?? I think spent $20.00. And you are right. Not worth it as much anymore since less people use it. Before every server used to be packed with hundreds of people, but now the highest amount of people on 1 server is like 50. Great prog. for playing internet games here's hoping this deal gets out and more people go back to using kali.

wow Kali is still alive! This was like the original multiplayer matchmaking program. I used to play Descent 1 on it all the time. I too registered 5 years ago when I was on a 28.8 modem...cost me like $10 bucks back then.

LOL! I just found my old registration number in a txt file...said it was modified 8/15/1997!

Does anyone know if they have ads on Kali now or is it still ad free? When I last used it banners were few and far between and most porn sites were free.

Is there anyone here who used it before Kali95 came out? I remember trying to get Kali DOS to work and not having any luck.

lol I remember being a)too cheap and b)having no credit card to go get kali. =)

So I settled for the ever cheaper Kahn =) Of course there are even fewer Kahn users by now, and it's free now(being released by someone who e-mailed the Kahn guy and asked if he could just give it out for free).

LOL, so the programs of yesteryear are umm free now...

Site says they are "free (temporary) registration codes." So does that mean they will disable the free serial numbers later on?

Yeah, I paid that $20 too WAYYYY back in the day. I had Kali DOS to work with MechWarrior 2. Whew, those were the days.

On a side note, I'm sure you veteran gamers may know more about this - but I'm trying to get it straight for myself. The whole concept of "clans" in online gaming -- that came about as a direct result of MechWarrior2, did it not? A lot of people today just take it for granted that there are clans in multiplay, but no one newer to the gaming scene has any clue where it traces its roots to. So am I right with this or just spitting into the wind?

LDegrelle, the first time I heard the word clan being used was with Quake...I think mainly because it was the first mainstream game with TCP/IP network gaming built in. Ah the good old days...back when Gamespy was Qspy and the really good games weren't sold in retail stores

you can use kali to play WC3 instead of bnet. =) no I don't play WC3 and no I don't play it under the username DongTran in the RedAlert2 chat room in Gamespy either.

Read it too!! Just thinking, will they disable the "temporary" free registration codes when they have a lot of people playing again??

HAHA I still use Kali, mainly for CS its a great way to find servers with the lowest pings. I paid my $20 bucks like 2-3 years ago and its the best darn $20 i have ever spent. I look forward to avoiding the hassles of Battle.net when I buy Warcraft 3 next month!

On the subject of origin of multiplayer game clans:

MUDs Multi User Domains/Dungeons were/are a text based multiplayer role playing game that often had clans, guilds, etc. I would hazard a pretty reliable guess that these had clans and whatnot long before graphical multiplayer games were more than a thought.
