Not really a hot deal at all anymore. For $222 u get a Ti4200, when for an extra $20, u can get any 1 of a number of Ti4400 cards that have a good chance of overclocking to 4600 speeds. Those Ti4400s just keep on looking better and better, with price cuts coming pretty soon on all the Ti cards.

paulwik -- 4200 only has video-out, no video-in. Check gainward's site for more details.

I agree with BigJ, and ended up getting a Gainward 4400 refurb for $209.

No video out? You need to do more research, this is from Gainward website on the Ti4200:

"Gainward's XP-Feature for Video-In and Video-Out

Gainward's award-winning XP feature, also know as "VIVO", provides two video-in connectors and two video-out connectors (both composite video and s-video for PAL and NTSC) for smooth video recording and video editing including accelerated DVD playback with enhanced motion compensation in hardware"

There are two Gainward ti 4200's. The 650 XP and the 650 TV. The XP has Video-out and Video-in. The TV model just has video out. The one on Newgg is the XP.

i think it would be well worth buying the matrox card. itz really coool...think it'll easily beat the gf4 ti4200 or even gf4 ti 4400 or ti 4600. must wait..but i'm not too sure about the prices. maxtor was well know for their 2d cards, think this is their first 3d card..oh well, any opinions on this card ?

I ordered one last night from newegg. $222 shipped. A bit more than I had planned on spending when I first read about the Ti4200. I had planned on getting the 64MB version, but I grew impatient, and the specs on the Gainward Golden Sample 128MB card with 4ns memory were awesome.

It includes VIVO, a splitter cable, and remains under warranty if it's overclocked with Gainward's tuner app.

Still no word on the 64MB version. If I'm not mistaken, this Gainward card is basically the nVidia reference design *before* they decided to do the two different memory configurations. Plus, with a red board and orb-style cooler, it's going to look *real* good in my windowed case with cold-cathode lighting.

You're right, the Gainward cards are beautiful, not to mention their quality construction. I've always enjoyed looking at my red Gainward GF3, even though I have to open the case to do so.

BTW, I was originally planning on getting a Ti4600 card. However, I did not want the dual digital video out connectors of the Gainward which requires use of an (included) adaptor for an analog CRT. I have no plans to ditch my 21" Sony CRT and do not want a 1-2 inch adaptor sticking out of the back of my vid card. So I was going to get a lackluster PNY Ti4600 for over 300 bucks. Along comes this beautiful, overclockable, relatively inexpensive Gainward 4200 and it was love at first sight (after reading the gamepc review that is).

It should come tomorrow, it's kind of exciting. My son doesn't realize the benefit yet, but he's about to inherit my Gainward Golden Sample GeForce3, which should improve his gaming experience.

It's funny, but for $220 I'm getting a card that should vastly outperform a card I bought just 9 months ago for $330. Uh, yes, you might say I am serious about my gaming. When the NV30 comes out, I'll be looking at that I suppose.

At 220 bucks, isnt the ti 4400 a better bargain? I just sold my visiontek 4400 for $240 shipped; isnt the 25/106mhz bump in clock speed, the better 2d quality, the better power regulation, and the better cooling worth the extra 20 dollars? I woudlnt see paying 100 more for a 4600, but 20 more for a 4400 is more worth it.

Sust my 2 cents.

Well, at newegg, the price difference between the Gainward Golden Sample Ti4200 and Ti4400 is $55.

Another way to look at it is you're getting "guaranteed" 4ns RAM overclocking on the Gainward Golden Sample Ti4200 (product remains under warranty overclocked) to bring it very close to Ti4400 specs, and it's $55 less.

Bottom line: Either card is a price/performance bargain in my opinion if you consider performance nowhere near this good was well over $300 just a few months ago.

um... Matrox?!? They are good for no thrills video cards but that's about it. I wouldn't trust a Matrox card for anything 3D (bad experience with their last 3D card *hack G400 cough* which I end up selling within a month).

Oh, I don't think you should make assumptions about the power of the new matrox G1000. Matroxs' track record with new video cards has been pretty bad. Plus, the specs may make it seem very good but when have a manufacture put down their own product?

I would give it at least a year before this comes out. Matrox G1000 Release Date: Summer 2003!

I never got a satisfactory answer to whether the GeForce4 chip(s) do hardware-assisted DVD like the ATI RageTheatre chips do. Anyone have a definitive answer?

I'm just gonna wait a week or two when they have more models in stock, demand goes back down, and the prices goes back down to $199.

The g100 was there first 3d card. When the g400 max was out it was the fastest and best looking card there was. No tnt2 or voodoo 3 could beat it. Plus it had dualhead.
