Thought some people might be interested in this and didn't see it posted elsewhere. Kinda warm at $499. If you're a game freak and have to have the japanese version of the game 6 months before it comes out in the US. Cheaper then buying a japanese gamecube, us gamecube and a region free dvd player and more compact.

GameCube Universal Q DVD system

The GameCube Universal Q System is a Nintendo GameCube and DVD player in one, designed by Nintendo and Panasonic. This unique design allows you play all USA and Japanese GameCube software, and Region 1 - 6 DVD movies. Also, it features four player input for multi-player gaming. This rare limited edition is a definite must have for all collectors. Click here for a larger image of the front and back of the Q system.

You'll need a voltage adapter. I believe the Japanese version runs on 100volts while US is 120volts.

I posted this in OT a couple weeks ago when lik-sang got them in.

I want one, but $500 is a lot to drop on a GCN and non-progressive scan DVD player.

Agreed. You can get a Gamecube and a nice Toshiba progessive scan player (with component outputs obviously) for about $425.

Interesting, the picture of the back says it runs on 110V AC. I believe this is a US product and no adapter is need. Anyone?

After living in Japan for 3.5 years I can tell you that (at least in the Tokyo area) they use 100v/50HZ for thier electricity. That being said, all my american electronics worked fine (USA 110v/60hz tv, vcr, microwave, whatever) over there, and all my Japanese electronice work fine over here (back in the good ol' U.S. of A.) The only problem I had was with my digital alarm clock. It would run fast.

Personally, unless this unit allowed for playing backups of Gamecube software, I wouldn't get it (except for maybe the cool factor). Converting the normal Gamecube (Japanese or USA) is as easy as connecting two points on the motherboard and installing a switch. So, for about $210 + tax & a little soldiering skill you can have a universal game cube. Pair that with an Apex 1500 DVD player and you can have your region free + SVCD +DVD.

A region free or hackable DVD player can be had for fairly cheap

I believe they use a proprietary connector on the machine to achieve component output (it's the one labeled digital video output on the back). You have to buy it from Nintendo's site as far as I know.

warning: their redesigned website does not diminish the fact that buyrite is a terrible company. They are known to be a foul up company in terms of video game products. Some advertised prices appear to be low, but they might not even have it in stock.

And if it isn't in stock, they might even charge your credit card and claim that it's been shipped! Good luck in trying to get a refund, for a product never in stock and never received.

Buyer beware!
