Even though they're 650MB discs it's still a great deal for Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs. I always like to keep a spindle of 700s on hand for those things that won't fit on a 650, but almost everything does. The 650s are 7.85 and the 700s are 17.99, it's a no-brainer which to buy. Good find.

HP CDRs are not always TY. I've seen a lot of HP CDRs made in Taiwan.

The 650s are 12x and the 700s are 16x.

From what I've read, 16x and 24x TY's are really the same. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure 12x TY is not the same. I don't think you can burn 12x TY's at 24x speed. If anyone had tried buring 12x TY's at 24x speed, please post and let us know your results.

Edit: By the way, if you need HP 12x CDR 50pack's, and don't feel like paying the $4.99 shipping fee, the other day I was at OfficeMax B&M and saw a whole bunch of HP 12x CDR 50packs on clearance. I forgot the exact price but I'm pretty sure it's less than $7.85 + $4.99 = $12.84 which is the price you would pay if you have to get only one spindle from the HPshopping site.

I do remember that when the HP 16x CDR 50packs were on clearance at OfficeMax, I picked one up for $14. That was a good deal.

How does one tell the manufacturer of a CD-R platter, other than what is printed on the surface... which, in ths case, will be H-P?

You can identify CDR manufacturer and stuff with a small program called CDRID. Look around various places on the Internet.

They are TY. White top and it says made in Japan. I got them today.
