Newegg is cheaper. $111 + 7$ shipping. Not really much of a discount to worry over, but if you are buying lots of parts those dollars can add up.

For instance, a friend at work bought motherboards, hard drives, processors and memory to upgrade two systems. He always scoffed at newegg because the prices were only a few dollars less. I showed him afterwards that he had spent over $200 too much even after shipping. Here in the forums I'm probably just preaching to the choir, but maybe some of you can save your stubborn know-it-all friends some money.

Interestingly, at Newegg you can save $10 by buying this IDE hard drive with a Mylex SCSI RAID controller. I bet that one doesn't get used a lot.

when in doubt... check newegg first.

Please do not buy this drive. It is regarded in the storage community as a very unreliable drive. There is an unusually high number of rma's on these.

I have one myself and it recently died on me. The drive is dated March 2001. It didn't just crash, but it makes a grinding noise and data is not easily retrievable (the only way for me now is to send it to a data recovery center).

Here are a couple posts in the forums:
Ibm has some nerves........ibm 75GXP drama continues!!!!

finaly got rid of 75gxp... YES!

IBM GXP60 goes "bzzzzz-click bzzzzzzz-click" on startup :-((

This applies to both the 60gxp and 75gxp series. I don't care how cheap these are, just the concern that it may die at any second bothers me a great deal.

I will second this one!!!! I would avoid it... I had the meat grinder noise too. It sounded like my old Apple IIc did when it was formatting a disk. After using 8 different programs to try and recover my .pst file, scandisk moved the information on its 327th scan. They sent me a new drive, and I am using it... but I wouldn't use this drive to house your porn collection... its not that reliable!

i have not noticed that the 60 gxps have any more problems than any other comparable drives. i can vouch that mine runs like a champ.

the 75gxps however, are a different story....

btw, did you two have 60gxp or 75gxp?

Mine is a 60 gig 60gxp... still can't access it... gonna try freezing it.

And yea, don't house your porn collection on there... my 3 years of porn are all gone
